2016 118 d Sport. - Lost key.
Discussion
A female friend has a 2016 118 d Sport.
She lives in a development of 15 houses, around a communal garden, and she lost one of the keys walking from her garage to her house, less than 50 yards!
She has been totally unable to find the missing key, but has the spare. It appears likely that someone must have picked up & retained the missing key.
First question, about how much will a dealer charge to supply & program a new key?
More importantly, can the dealer reprogram the car & existing key, so that the old key doesn't work; and what is this likely to cost.
Her concern is that if someone has found the key, and not returned it, they must have a reason - it would be very easy to return as her's is the only BMW in the development.
The other residents are all friends, and know her well & would by now have returned the key.

Autologic won't do it (well the legal ones anyway), but there are a number of other ones that will. I have a Zed full that will do that with ease.
Expect to pay about £60 programming costs for an autosparks, plus another £100 or so for a new key, plus any call out etc. Expect to pay lots more from BMW - though to be fair, ime BMW were the more reasonable of the Big 3.
Autosparks is defo the way to go I would say.

I know my BMW fob has got a blade in, so if I was concerned the lost fob was in the hands of someone who knew which car it belonged to, it would be a barrel change too.
Not had a good look around the car yet, but would expect to find a couple of barrels, behind the driver’s door handle and also the glovebox ?
I would think she’ll need a lock set (Barrels and blades), a new fob, and someone to relearn the fobs.

My wife had a similar experience, she came home one day, parked the car and the keys just seemed to disappear into thin air. I could fill this page with the stories of the places we searched. Eventually she got new keys and had the car programmed to bar the original keys. Then one day, months later, I found the original keys in the door pocket of the rear door. How or why they got there is anybody's guess.
I can't remember the cost but the car was not a BMW so the cost might not be helpful.

I thought you could buy them and you program them yourself, it comes as fob and blade and is around £160 or it was the last time I purchased one. They arrive next day and you need the v5 and some I.d to order them.
You can of course buy them from BMW like this, but it won't remove the lost key. The 'programming' you are doing is introducing the remote control to the car.NJSS said:
Many thanks.
It looks as she needs to find someone with a Zed Full who can disable the lost key & program a replacement key.
Any suggestions as to who might be able to help within, say 25 miles from either Portsmouth or Sherborne, Dorset.

Give Hickleys a call .(01823) 328500. they are based in Taunton, and are a major industry supplier. I'd be very surprised if they are not on good terms with someone independent in that area. When I got my 2006 Z4 Coupe it only came with 1 key (of the older bladed type) and I wasn't too comfortable with that!
Anyway someone on the z4forum in the Liverpool area cut and coded a flip-style key for me for £80, and deleted the missing keys while he was coding my new one. I believe he now has premises near Warrington.
Another place I have read good reviews of is "bmkeys" in E.London - just avoid the main agents!
