Hi. Please can i have some views on this car please? Is it likely to be reliable? I don't have much use for a car (2k miles per year), and want one that's unlikely to cost me a lot (including in depreciation).

I have one of these. Mine hasn’t been particularly reliable/trouble free. Quite durable interior however. I’d recommend an auto vs a manual.

That's a lot of money for a car you don't need.
Merc's in my experience have lots of difficult to fix electrical issues, and are generally very complex to fix.

Reliability = Toyota, and for £6k you'll find a very nice one of those.

Lexus IS250 or GS450h springs to mind. There's a few nice ones under £5.5k and aren't moon mileage either.

Any particular reason you want a merc with cloth seats that’s painfully slow?

Seems a lot of money to say you have a poverty spec merc.

I'd go for the Alfa as well and I'm rather glad that Alfa is south of London frankly, I'd be mighty tempted to at least go for a look (red is the the colour to go for), it's one of the very few cars that I'd buy again... albeit not in oil burner spec.

I'm not sure if its exactly the same engine but my 2013 C180 is 0-60 in about 8s. Its definitely not a fast car but its perfectly adequate. Mine has the Artico fake leather which Id recommend versus the cloth as it is super durable. Unless you really want cloth. I think real leather is in the top spec cars or an option.

How’s the reliability been so far? I’m in the market for a 2013 + C180 as I heard it has the newer 1.6L M274 engine as the previous one had major issues with the timing belt.

Not great considering that it’s only just clicked 40k miles, it’s a fairly lightly used car. There was a thermostat replacement which came in at about 250 via an Indy (a big assembly needed to be changed). And I was recovered twice due to a steering issue that was fixed via a main dealer software update. And the gearbox has always had some clunky characteristics, especially when cold. They could never full fix that and the dealer spent thousands on parts and labour. It is quite a nice overall package however and as the gearbox stuff was done under warranty, I’ve only spent 350 of my own money on repairs in the 3 years it’s been out of warranty. It’s a decent engine, reasonably economical and a refined cruiser.
