looking at buying a VW Transporter T6 second hand for my company.

What I can't understand is why so many of the ones for sale are advertised as +VAT, when most are not the T32s and so most were not commercial vehicles for VAT purposes and so should not have had VAT reclaimed..... so should they not be selling without VAT now?

What am I missing? Do people simply not worry about the payload issue and hoe they are not inspected?!

They’re sold as +VAT when new and if owned by a VAT registered company (for whatever reason) then they have to sell +VAT when sold.

You’d only get a non VAT one when it’s privately owned or by a non VAT business.

The payload etc hasn’t really got anything to do with it.

so that makes sense - but the question then becomes why are the companies buying all these vans when for very little more they could buy more or less the same thing and claim 20% back?

Why couldn't they claim VAT back on a Kombi?

We quite often buy cars and vans at work and claim back all VAT on all of them as they're all 100% business use. Is just like buying anything else.

I think there are different rules on company cars.

think I've found my answer - can claim the vat back, bur can't claim 100% of costs against annual investment allowance UNLESS a van (payload >1000kgs, which many SWB Kombi's aren't).

The HMRC rules for what constitutes a van or a car are not completely consistent between VAT and Income Tax/Corporation Tax.
