I'm pretty sure my wife is about to somehow get scammed on ebay as she's just received a message with an offer to buy a pair of shoes she is selling. The message starts with "Hello dear" which I've seen before on scam emails that victims have posted on the net. Another strange thing is that the shoes are £50 or offers but rather than hit buy it now they've offered the exact asking price. What would the possible scam be? Or am I being too cautious and it's just an older member of the ebay community trying to buy a pair of shoes smile

Not sure how, it’ll be a return / not received scam somehow

Eitherway, avoid

Yes, definitely will avoid. It's possibly a hijacked account as feedback is good.

This is the complete message, "Hello dear I'm offering 50 pounds for the two shoes that you advertise Mrs weightman".

If it's an offer by emailing the seller, definitely a scam. If it's via the proper offer button and that message, probably only 90% chance of scam. It is eBay after all; it really should be renamed as scamBay.

Low-tier scam attempt. They don't even try these days.

Deliberately, I'm told to filters out the more intelligent user.

If you're thick enough to read that message and not realise. Your more likely to send money.

+1. Can you fit anything in what was supposed to be your part of the wardrobe?

Ironically I am considering selling some "worn once" limited edition trainers on eBay in the near future.
