Fun car with low insurance?
Discussion
Hello.
I'm after a new (to me) car, currently on a Seat Leon mk1 diesel snotter, not the worst car in the world but I'd like something fresh / more characterful. However my current insurance situation is causing me annoyance, to summarize;
I now live in Birmingham (yeah...) Which isn't going to be changing for a while, the seat costs me around 1300 quid to insure, 24yr old, 4 years driving experience and 2 years no claims, I have had an at fault and a none fault claim, so I'm not expecting cheap insurance for a while, my gripe however is that at my previous address, a category D for postcodes, I was able to get quotes for less than the seat on some reasonable cars, mk6 fiesta ST, suzuki swift sport etc. Now however these are adding around 300-500 to my policy.
I'm wondering if there are any cars that are reasonable in terms of character / fun, that balance the insurance book somewhat?
I'm also open to the suggestion of a useable classic car, I'm not familiar with how classic insurance works, and it must be useable as a daily driver.
Budget is around 2.5k for the car.

Clio 172/182 has to be worth a look?
I bought a 182 and my insurer at the time (Admiral) wouldn't even cover me on it. They didn't insure them at all (this was a couple of years back). No issues before that insuring all sorts and with no claims over 20 years - might just have been their company policy at that time but I'd worry how easily you could get insurance on one.Side note: great cars though!
Depends on a few things, as my area is weird for certain cars.
Previous car
Fiesta st3 with immob -£1050 up from £820 the year before.
Current car
Audi tt mk1 modified -£561 down from £660 year before.
Cars I'm looking at getting for daily duties.
Suzuki swift sport - £580 even though half the power of the audi tt.
Civic type r fn2 - £548

Basically, classic policies tend to be limited mileage, and depending on the car are typically for things 20+ years old. My '84 Porsche 924 is on a classic policy and cost me £260 (23, no NCD on this policy, 5k miles including commuting and 7k agreed value). You'd get a bad, but running 924/924s for 2.5k with a bit of looking around, and they're simple to work on, particularly the standard 2l 924. Slow as hell, but excellent cruisers as long as you can deal with being left in the dust by pretty much everything.
My 98 MGF didn't qualify by a few months this year and was £600ish.
