Yeah lovely. I've always thought that not enough ste came out the back of diesels any more.

They are the same (FYI the convertible and Compact do have a different system however).

Be warned that it will sound dire and smoke like a chimney - I wouldn't do it.

I would recommend against it. It's becoming more and more unfashionable to remove emissions compliance systems from any vehicle, moreso a diesel one. They STINK with no cat on and smoke much more. You run the risk of failing an MOT too. They don't even sound any better since the turbo muffles so much of the noise.

In short, don't do it.

Thanks for the replies, i think i will just go for a decat downpipe for the performace gains, as for the looks not sure if i should delete the backbox or not looking to get the 325/330 look, or should i just cut off the downturned pipe and weld a straight one on to it??

If you want more performance then get it remapped.

Leave the exhaust - it works and nobody will be fooled by you trying to make it look like you didn't by the diesel ...

Or sell the thing and buy the petrol car you clearly want?

I de-catted my 330d and it was one of the best things I did to the car to be honest, it was very laggy beforehand but with a decat pipe fitted the the turbo spooled up almost instantly, it didn't really make any difference to how much smoke it produced either (a modern diesel in good health shouldn't smoke really) and passed mots ok as the decat pipe was hidden by the undertray, it did stink though when idling.

Surely, if the car gets mapped by someone who knows what their doing, there shouldnt be any smoke even with no cats, right?

There is your problem!

Most don't, they just insert generic map files that Spiro the Greek wrote in his shed after a quick course.

Whereas BMW spent millions on working out how the engine worked & how to efficiently get the best out of it across the board.
