Thought I was buying a surface book 2, turns out I bought a surface book..

From what I'm reading the key difference is in processor power. I'm chiefly intending to use mine for office type stuff - note taking, but also a bit of trying out AI / Machine Learning stuff and maybe some older games like world of warcraft when I'm on the road.

I've got the i7-6600u 13.5" model

Is this older device still going to meet my requirements? at least it seems I got it for a sensible price, even for the older one..

As long as you're happy with the price paid, then I wouldn't worry. Tech is moving along at a pretty slow rate nowadays. I doubt you would notice much difference unless you had them side by side, and even then...

Cheers. I'll stick with it and save myself a couple of hundred quid.

How'd you like it? Thinking of getting a SB2 as the screen on my SP4 is playing up and the battery life is shocking.

What's your SP4 doing, is it screen flicker?

Yup. After it's been on a while loads of horizontal lines appear along the top of the screen, which gets progressively worse the longer it's on, ending with the whole thing flickering.

Have a look here:

Microsoft Support

The key is it needs to be under 3 years old.

Mine did this, but it appeared more as a flickering ghosting at the bottom of the screen which then got progressively worse until affected the entire screen. Unfortunately this was at 3 years and 10 months.

I went out and bought a laptop replacement, however I'm still considering the consumer rights act action as it is clearly a known fault.

Thanks for the link. Though already been down that path and got nowhere as it was out of warranty.

Is it under 3 years old though?

The support is free outside of warranty fir that period.

Got to admit that I was that pissed off with it failing after in (my opinion) such a short space of time that I went to another manufacturer.

My Dell XPS15 broke and I needed a laptop immediately. Bought a Surface Book knowing that months later there would be the SB2 launched. I work on my laptop though so couldn't wait.

I haven't had any issues so far. It has 8GB of ram which I find more than enough for most things.
