Hi, I live in Abu Dhabi and my 2006MY V8 Vantage has a "p0118 engine coolant temperature circuit high input" problem which gives an engine warning and the temp gauge is maxed out. The engine is not overheating but I cannot drive it as the AC does not turn on (presumably a safety measure). I have had the ECT sensor replaced and the wiring checked but the fault remains. My mechanic who is not an AM specialist says it might be a fault the ECU. AstonMartinBits.com have an Engine ECU for £1175 but you have to send the old one to them first https://www.astonmartinbits.com/models/5-V8-Vantag... They also have a EEC MODULE ECU PI + ENG AUTO https://www.astonmartinbits.com/models/5-V8-Vantag... which has to be fitted by a main dealer, which they probably won't do. I'm not sure what the difference is and I obviously don't want to go through the trouble and expense if that isn't the solution.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Get it to an AM specialist. If the car is car is not overheating then you need to clear the fault and see if it reappears.

Does it read fully hot even from completely cold. Any recent history regarding maintenance or events to help. The are plenty of relatively minor causes for this so hopefully you can sort it yourself especially if you have a multi meter to check voltages etc.

Thanks for the replies. The fault was cleared after replacing the ECT sensor. The warnings appear as soon as the car is turned on. Both front indicators haven't worked for some time which I was told was just the sun had damaged the led strips. I have been trying to find someone who can do cold baking to replace the strips with some after market custom lights so the car has been sat unused for a few months. Even though the car is in the shade the heat has also damaged the LCD screens on the instrument cluster and the stereo. They work but have crystallised. The back plate of the Sat Nav has also cracked and fallen off, so I have a lot of replacement parts to buy. I don't think these issues are related as they all happened before the fault developed.

Check the wiring to the sensor if the supply wire has broken and has earthed it will send a false signal reading, that it is over heating.
The wire from the ECU is GB Green/Blue and goes to ECU port 33

Engine wiring harness plug to ECU
