Hahaha & a big Doh! Clio, 2004 1.2 16V Miss fire
Discussion
Renault Clio, 2004 1.2 16V miss firing (Helps the search engines).
Just a story...
Last Sunday previous driving home from the parent's place and the car develops a miss fire which gets worse and worse.
Managed to get home and after consuming a bottle of red to drown my sorrows hit the Internet for spares & ideas.
It's got to be the coil pack right? Every internet car forum is full of posts about French electrics.
Monday mourning [sic] (& sick) I call a few mates, 'Yeah coil pack mate - gotta be' I'm informed.
So I call up all the local motor factors (within walking distance) and the best quote I can get is 70+ Euros, so as you do, take a look on Amazon Ebay etc.
Found a coil pack for £25 on Amazon and ordered it. Didn't realise that it would take a week to deliver - ho hum.
It arrived yesterday and I had a go at fitting it.
Well who the fvck in Renault thought it was a sensible idea to bury the spark plugs down a 6" hole?
Especially a hole where you pull those long HT leads off and realise that it's left the rubber grommet on the spark plug which means you can't even get one of those stupidly slim sockets on to the b
d plug to get it out?
This I discovered at 6:30 am as I refused to drive the car unless I knew there was a friend who could tow me out of trouble whilst not interfering with his paying day work.
So a dawn hour was spent getting the corroded rubber seals off the plugs and up the deep tubes. Even pulling the loose plugs out was a pain, and we used the plastic pipe pushed on to the head of the plugs.
So we got them [bits of the rubber] all out, and fitted the new coil pack.
Alone now it was apparent that a new set of plugs should have been the order of the day.
The car was still running like a bag of s
te.
Drove it 20km back to town to buy new spark plugs and then all the way back to the workshop because I'd left my 14mm deep socket behind. (That's the Doh bit!).
Pulled out the spark plugs and noticed that 3 & 4 were utterly black. (1 & 2 looked fine)
Put in new ones and the car still ran like a bag of nails, Hmmm I thought - swap the HT leads between 3 & 4.
The coil pack I've fitted is a 1,2,3,4 not a 1,2,4,3
All good now, car is perfect
