Hi all, looking for a bit of advice.

Currently own an e89 on 31k miles and 2011 plate. The other day I dropped the roof and when it finished and I turned off the ignition as was parked up, I got an amber battery signal on the dash. Turned car back on and no further warning.

When I now turn on the car I get a car on ramp amber warning light but no battery symbol anymore. I’m not due any service for about 3 months and 5000 miles according to the onboard vehicle checks except for what I believe may be the lamps checks (can’t find the bloody symbol on google anywhere or in my manual).

Has anybody experienced this before? I’m assuming the battery is on its way out but wary it’s something more sinister- google seems to create more fear.

I've not had an E89, but when the battery symbol lit up on my E87 (with stop/start) in 2012 it was time for a new AGM battery that needed to be coded via the OBD!

Just over £250 from an Indy - Sytner wanted over £300! eek

You probably want to see what voltage the battery is producing without the engine running, then see what voltage you get with the engine running just to rule out any charging issue.

Thanks Mr T.

Marshall (my only BMW specialist around me apparently) want £99 just to diagnose...

I’m wondering if this is something that can be easily looked at and checked by any indy...

I get the same things on my E89 2011.
My car is used infrequently so I've recently bought a trickle charger £20 Argos . I leave it on overnight once in a while and no more orange car on a jack symbol. I assume it's telling that battery power is reserved for engine starts rather than roof operation. So far I'm not considering battery replacement.

more than likely just means your battery was/is low on charge

I’m finding now that the roof operation can become intermittent and red roof light comes on. I’m therefore confused again.
