Parcels2Go Exclusion Lists

Yesterday I sent 4 alloy wheels via the above comparison website to Europe. I paid for £1400 of additional insurance, the total bill was nearly £200.

I placed the order online, filled in all the information and the 4 boxed alloys were collected by DPD yesterday afternoon. Happy days.

Apparently not.

This morning I got an email from the website saying that they are going to refund me the extra cover because wheels are prohibited items and will have no cover for loss or damage in transit. Obviously it is my fault for not realising this (seeing as wheels are a dangerous item) so I have asked for the goods to be returned and the order cancelled (along with a full refund) as per their terms.

Here is the list of the exclusions just in case anyone tries using their services in future:

Apple Mac/Macpro - maximum parcel compensation value for damages is £200.00, up to £2,500.00 compensation for lost items. (iMacs are covered for loss only)
Banjo/Guitar/Cello/Violin - maximum parcel compensation value for damages is £100.00, up to £1,000.00 compensation for lost items. All musical instruments must be sent in a hard case and boxed.
Computers - maximum parcel compensation value for damages is £200.00, up to £2,500.00 compensation for lost items. (all in one computers are covered for loss only)
Cycles - maximum parcel compensation value for damages is £200.00, up to £5,000.00 compensation for lost items.

Most of the major couriers have exclusion lists just as long as this unfortunately... it would be quicker to list what they do actually cover.

You'll find most of them will accept 90% of that list, P2Go have a massive exclusion list due to high claims/insurance costs/surcharges, it's how they keep their costs so low. A customer of mine regularly sends steering wheels that he retrims (No airbags) but they are banned, he just describes them as car interior parts so nothing pings up.

Parcel2Go aren’t a carrier, just a middleman. So their exclusion list will be the summary of every delivery company they use’s exclusion list.

They offer cheaper prices as they get a reduced rate from each company by promising to send many parcels via them, like bulk-buyers discount. Perhaps they also negotiate cheaper rates by lowering the insurance levels.

Maybe you’d get a better response going direct through DPD.

I can see why they don’t want to cover wheels though, they’re often valuable, heavy, awkward and generally insufficiently packaged.

Try Paisley Freight, I don't know if they have a European service, but I've used then in the UK several times.

Paisley Freight are just an agent too. They send DPD or Parcelforce or whoever. And I think they exclude most car parts too.

We also resell delivery services and try where possible to mirror the liability that we get from the carrier, as it is the carrriage price that our bulk buying gets a discount on, but anything we move is carried under the carriers normal t and c's. Some carriers such as DHL will cover alloy wheels while in transit. PM if you would like more info.

I shipped some wheels to Scotland using Parcelhero (UPS) and there were no exclusions on insurance for them. I would never use Parcel2Go due to basically not insuring anything (but they are happy to take your money for it!)

Thanks for all the posts and recommendations.

Hardly big news, but I got a reply to my email asking them for my wheels back. The email arrived this morning to say the wheels cant be returned because they are now outside the country. According to the tracking info all 4 boxes (I used oe boxes with rim protectors etc) are at the depot in europe so fingers crossed they are delivered undamaged tomorrow.

I once tried to make a claim with Parcel2go.
It was at then they pointed out that what I thought was ‘insurance’ with them is not insurance. I can’t remember exactly what they said, but I think they described it as ‘compensation’ or ‘cover’.
Luckily the package was found.
But in any case they are a sh*t company of things go wrong.
