cannot send DM

ive been on here for years and yet I cannot send private messages, can anyone help?

Go to the profile of the member you wish to message (click on their username), and then click the 'Email Me' link.

I think my confusion was that I thought there was a DM feature separate to email that was restricted when you are a new user, I mistakenly thought that feature had never been enabled for me.
