Southern Ireland camping road trip advice please
Discussion
As per tittle really ,, three 50+ year old “lads “ planning 5/6 day road trip , probably following the coast from Rosslare to Limerick ?
Then cross country back to port ?
Only requirements are good scenery and good camp sites , ideally realistic walking distance to good pubs .
Any advice welcome
Thanks in advance

We do the Irish Rally which is a vintage bike run based in and around Killarney.
From there you can get to the ring of Kerry and there’s loads of lovely scenery. We go into Wexford and drive across the bottom.
If you want the ‘proper’ Ireland though, head to county Mayo. Achill island is a fabulous place and isn’t at all touristy (well maybe Achill is a little bit the rest of Mayo isn’t!) and you’ll have a great time.
All weather dependant though...

South/West/North coast all great but don’t stretch yourself too much if it’s just for a 5 day trip. Irish B roads take time on a bike and you’ll want to stop off on the route...
Check out wild Atlantic way for good tourist info
Also - try to come on the 2 weeks of the year when it isn’t lashing rain!

If you are in the Killarney area then a trip up over Molls Gap is a must in my opinion. It was a famous rally stage back in the day. Anywhere in the West Cork/Kerry area will have spectacular views.
If you have time a trip up along the coast of Clare is well worth it. Part of the Wild Atlantic Way. Up over the Cliffs of Moher, I can highly recommend lunch at the Anchor Inn at Liscannor Bay. Then it’s a short spin up the coast along the edge of The Burren towards Galway.
Some great driving roads if you get there before 10am or in the early evening. I had a great run out over the Wild Atlantic Way recently, but it can get busy with buses and large campers at times, just so you are aware. Lots of places to camp along the way.

It's not camping, but if you fancy a night in a real bed before taking the ferry back from Rosslare, the Coral Gables Guesthouse in Tagoat is a few minutes from the port, bike-friendly, and across the road from a decent pub where the ferry workers were drinking, so I got their advice on how late I could roll up for the sailing.
Co, Wexford is where my family are from and use Rosslare a lot. If your driving East to West I'd take the R736 from Tagoat across to Wellington Bridge, drive down the Hook Peninsula (great scenery) and then drive back up to Ballyhack and get the little ferry across to Passage East on the Waterford side. Wonderful part of the world, have a great time.

Last night sorted , thank you Few questions for the folks who have already done this.
Is the route we are thinking of to much for 5 days , we are on Harley’s and we do get thirsty !
looking at taking the 23.45 from Fishguard and a 4 berth cabin hopefully get 4 hours sleep , do you need a sleeping bag or is the a blanket provided.
any campsite addresses ?

Steve if you overnight it on the ferry don't do too much on the first day. You may think you will get a decent sleep but think again as it's generally quite disturbed sleep, it's alright for me as I only have an hour or so the other side to my home (place called Camolin) and I'll have a nap. I'd do an easy ride the first day and get to the Cork area, via the South coast points of interest. Cobh is quite nice just outside Cork for somewhere to stay.
