Temperature. Or lack of it?

My temperature gauge is not registering, although the obvious solution would be to take it to my dealer, this would involve a 150 mile round trip and probably other significant costs. Would it be worth while changing the temperature switch on the block, and if so, where could I locate this. Or should I just accept the cost of having an almost flawless machine and take it to the dealer? Any advice would be much appreciated.....
Temp gauge in dashboard is a capillary type with a pipe going all the way to the connector in the water rail near the radiator. It's a complete unit and needs to be replaced as a whole.
If you mean the temp sensor for the ECU then that is a 10 quid part from a dealer and can be replaced in 5 mins after you get the front engine bay cover off.

It's likely that the gauge in the dash needs replaced then. I assume the oil pressure part of it works fine.
The capillary pipe is rather delicate.
If you take out the engine cover that goes over the battery and look at drivers side wing between the windscreen and airbox you will see a small pipe coming out of the wing with what looks like a wire wrapped round it. This is the pipe. Follow down to the area under the panel at the front of the engine and it screws into a water rail near the washer bottle. It's all one piece from the gauge all the way down to the connector. If it's anything like doing a throttle cable it will be a complete PITA to swap out.
I would maybe phone the dealer just to confirm this before you decide what to do.

I can feel for you on this. My gauge is u/s and is being replaced by a specialist tomorrow. Because it's coloured (blue) and not white background it's a special order part and so far taken months to supply. Worse still it will be about £400 fitted as to paint the background of the dial doubles the cost - don't ask me why 'cause it's only two inches in diameter! Hope your problem is a simple fix.
Thanks for all your technical knowledge, it was much appreciated. Spoke to dealer, he indicated that it is probably a defective gauge. The magnolia coloured gauge is 110 pounds and should take around 1.5 hours to install. I estimate a total cost of about 220 pounds and 160 miles round trip. Good stuff!
