What cheap reliable motor?

Family friend is after a car mainly for ferrying around their baby to and from daycare along with general running about. Max budget is £1300, I suggested a Mondeo but they want something around Focus size/07ish Civics. Anything else to consider? Maybe a Swift,Fabia but could be too small. Petrol and reliable. Based in Glasgow
