hi folks, i'm a year into ownership of my soon to be 3 year old 440i.
It is a car i will be keeping for the forseeable future - it will be 3 years old soon and i can see myself keeping it another 6-7 years, possibly until it dies - why the hell not, the new BMW's look disgusting.

As i'm not bothered about resale value, i want to do simple car maintance stuff myself - oil services, brake pads and discs - microfilters, that's about it really.

i refuse to pay someone to do that when i can do it myself, follow the technical manual and have peace of mind that it has been done by the book.
I intend to use genuine BMW parts, bought from a main dealer, for any work i do myself.

Now.....my question is this. The warranty runs out in September, and i want to extend it using BMW's Insured Warranty.
If I do my own oil changes, it would not be logged on the Service history data in the car... all i would have to prove I did it would be the parts invoice + maybe some pictures or even a video of me doing it........and logging the date/time it was done.

What happens if something happened, and i had to make a warranty claim? Are we forced to take our cars to 'reputable independents' or bmw dealers just so they can enter that data in the service history?

Mondial /allianz warranty (insured) requires that a VAT reg garage has done the services. Nothing to stop you doing interim services but I'd note those on separate doc.

Personally unless the car has been a Friday car (doubtful you'd keep it then!) I'd bank the cash and not bother with the insured warranty. I don't think it's all its cracked up to be on here. Dealers being the main issue rather than the warranty itself.

Basically: Yes!

The warranty companies want a record that someone trained, qualified, traceable, with liability insurance, has been working on vehicles, rather than some untraceable, untrained DIY'er, who's going to tell them: "No, I've never been trained, and I'm completely unqualified, but trust me, I did the job correctly!" after something has gone wrong.

Another point of view re the BMW Warranty. Stuff costs ridiculous amounts of money these days. You know the green light thats on the auto gear stick, that stopped working and was over £700 ! Madness.

My F30 30d 5 years old come october costs £57 a month with £100 excess agreed only issue I have had is the green light but who knows whats round the corner

Madness would be paying £700 to a dealer and not getting the part from a breakers
