Hi I’m new to this forum & would like a bit of advice on Westfield gearbox, I’ve got a ford type 9 box, with quick shift, which I can’t get on with, is it a straight swap over for the standard. Cheers Dave

Is it the quickshift you cannot get on with and want to change? What is the actual problem?

You can fit a standard lever but it will probably have to be cut down and bent or moved back with an extension (which you might already have?)

IME, the Westy gearchange mech on a type is woefull at best - soemthing to do with the location of the box in the chassis and the need for that odd remote set up.

Devils advocate - sell it and buy a real 7......rifle bolt slick change on standard box......

if the extension is this sort it gives a whole load of problems (in my experience)

I found it never moved smoothly or aligned correct giving a horrible shift.
Note mine did not come from mattlewisracing which might be better made but I still don't think the concept is good.

This sort should be as good as a standard shift if built properly.

Change the plastic saddle which can get worn out, and swap the quick shift lever for a regular, keeping the extension.

Mine is ok - admittedly it’s not as nice as an s2000 or a mx5 box, but it isn’t terrible, and I never miss gears on track.

Not familiar with that particular installation but my experience of Ford based boxes: as above, change the plastic bit regularly. Don't use the plastic "rose" joint, the metal one is much better.
