Can’t find a car sub £700
Discussion
I have until the 18/6/19 to find and insure a vehicle in order to keep my years no claims (I sold my Abarth in March and they gave me a set amount of time to find a new car in order to continue my current policy to the renewal date).
I’m trying to find a shed so to speak, just to park on my drive and insure so I still get this years no claims bonus. I’m 9 months into my policy so don’t fancy throwing the year away.
For the life of me, I can’t find any cars sub £700 that have more than 3 months MOT and are driveable. Starting to panic as the 16th is slowly approaching.
Anyone got any places/tips on where I can look to find a shed to insure for 3 months?

Why does it need an MoT for three months? If you’re not going to drive it just get the cheapest POS you can find that runs and drives even if it’s only got a couple of days MoT on it so you can get it parked up, then SORN it and keep it insured.
I presumed you needed an MOT for the insurance to be valid?Venisonpie said:
Do you actually need to own a car to insure? What happens if you take out cover on someone else's car?
This has crossed my mind as I’m currently using my girlfriends to get to and from work. I spoken to my insurance about if it’s ‘legal’ to have two policies running on one vehicle, they said yeah, but it’s hard when it comes to claiming. Her insurance said it’s illegal to have two running policies on one vehicle.
I searched autotrader, 10 mile radius of manchester and found 517 cars under £1k.
This one is £495 with 12 months MOT.

As above you don't need a valid mot to have insurance so that's not an concern. You just can't drive it on the road without the not (unless heading to a pre booked mot)
Gumtree is another good place to find very cheap cars.
Not illegal to insure the same car more than once, infact it probably happens alot when people sell cars and don't line up the timing correctly. the industry do have measures in place to identify multiple policies on the same car though and it's there to prevent people getting multiple policies then staging a claim and getting multiple pay outs. Would only be an issue if you tried to claim which you wouldn't be

There's a guy on here who is struggling to sell his car for scrap

Why not buy that - presumably for next to nothing - insure it, pay someone to take it away and forget to cancel your insurance.
As others have said, it may not be worth spending the money to buy the car and the unnecessary insurance. With insurers competing for your business when you come to need insurance again many offer introductory discounts in lieu of ncd, especially if you have been a named driver on someone else's poicy in the mean time.

Is your NCD actually worth £700? If not, spending £700 to protect less doesn't sound very sensible.
If it is and you dont actually need a car, buy the cheapest you can and SORN it and keep it insured.
My insurance was £650ish for the year on my Abarth with 2 years no claims. So after this year I would have had three. Doubt it would have made a huge difference, but hate the thought of having lost a years no claims when I could have easily secured it.If it is and you dont actually need a car, buy the cheapest you can and SORN it and keep it insured.

My girlfriends insurance are adamant that it's not allowed. Therefore I'm concerned that if I did insure her car using my own policy, it would invalidate hers or they'd cancel it.Gumtree is another good place to find very cheap cars.
