Does anybody know if an e60 545 is a higher insurance group than an e60 535d?

Parkers is your friend... https://www.parkers.co.uk/bmw/5-series/saloon-2003...
It really depends on the year & exact model (SE or Sport/M Sport), but typically a 545i is group 43, and the 535d is group 44.
Hope this helps.

I'd suspect the 535d is more of a theft target due to the the diesel engine and larger market for second hand stolen parts. Total guess work. The v8 is so solid there isn't much of a market for bits and pieces engine wise.

There is a thriving community (ok serious exaggeration) here with v8 touring owners and fans.
