Hello all, new bmw owner. Have bought a 2018 320D 1995cc Sport - Quite impressed, was after a Merc, but, got this, quite good and fast.

Need some advice please, not to tech savvie.

How do I from A to Z Update the Sat Nav?? Do I need a USB device, if so, can you point me to an adequate one please??

If this is not the correct forum, can it be posted on the correct one please, thanks

Have tried Bimmer, no replies, but found this one, hope you can help a New BMW user.

Grateful to anyone who helps, Graham

You could try taking it to BMW, it only costs £35 to update

Hello thanks, got told I could do it for free, though £35, sounds good, is this through Halliwell Jones, or some other firm?? Thanks again, Gep

I got mine done at Coopers in York (BMW main dealer). I'd prefer to pay £35 for BMW to do it rather than risk ballsing it up myself. We have a friend who works in the service dept at BMW and she said people have tried doing it themselves and it's screwed up the system requiring BMW to sort it.

Presumably it has Connected Drive as the subscription runs for 3 years from new.
You can get it transferred to your name.
However, map updates are done automatically and over the air - you won't know anything about it until it asks for a reboot.
Over the Air updates are quite a bit behind and only update UK. USB ones will update Europe.
With a Connected Drive account you can download to a 64Gb USB stick on your PC or Mac.
Then just plug it in to the car, the car will do the rest. It will take time though - you don't need to do it in one journey.

As with most car navs, the latest maps will probably be a year or so behind Garmin or TomTom latest maps so don't expect too much.

After a few emails, BMW sent a message to Germany to update mine directly. I had to email a photo of the software update/original number. Up until then there was no showing of the Mersey Gateway Toll Bridge for a 12 - 15 months, myhe car would be shown as floating across the Mersey. You can register on My BMW (or similar name). Then you can update various things via USB stick. I am not sure if it takes USB 3.0 but worth buying that speed.

Hello, will probably get it done at BMW, as I don't want to mess things up. Car is a year old, will ask to see if Mersey gateway is included.
Thanks for your replies, I will keep here as no replies on Bimmer.

Thank you both for your help, Gep

Have you linked your car to your bmw-connecteddrive account? If so you can update the maps by downloading the map update program and update via USB by plugging a USB key the USB port in the armrest.

Did the above with mine but couldn't get it to work. Tried the glovebox USB and it started straight away. Took quite a few journeys to complete and settle. That was from 2012 maps to 2018. F11

I did mine recently, with one of these... https://www.argos.co.uk/product/1515453

Most difficult bit for me and my limited skills, was formatting the stick to FAT32 smile

The rest was quite easy. BMW download manager to put the new map on your PC, then transferred on to the stick. Then on an F30, plugged into the cubby hole slot in the front centre armrest.

Hello all, called CONNECTED drives, they said I have business, and they have contacted Germany to sort out why I'm not receiving my Sat updates. I should get wireless updates, so no card needed. Will take 1 to 6 weeks, he said he'd get back in touch, so will wait, thanks for all your supplies, Gep

Hello E-Bmw, good reply, will build one later, as my home is 85 yards from car park. Get what you mean, just that all cars are going the same way, keyless. Manufacturers don't give a damn about my insurance going up, seen as I had my first accident in my last car didn't want my insurance going up again. Gep

Could you possibly post the URL that the windows download button goes to? This page errors when I load it on my account and I'm trying to do the same thing as the OP.

Sorry for mini hijack...

Dealers do some of the cheapest updates in the business, even CD updates are very reasonable, may buy the 2020 ones next year.

Hello, just downloading the BMW Download manage onto my computer, going to take 9 hrs more, it is moving slow like a snail. Have virgin broadband. It started fast, got to 45% fast, but slowed to a crawl. Have temp stoped virus and firewall, any other way to quicken it up, thanks Gep
