981 GTS Road Trip
Discussion
Folks,
Just returned from a cracking little european adventure in the GTS. The car was a real peach the whole trip, covering nearly 3k miles over 2 weeks.
It was relaxing, comfortable & economical eating up the motorways - and great fun on the 'off piste' driving roads I'd added to the journey. Really couldn't haven't asked for more from the car, impressive stuff. The first day alone we were on the road for 11hrs but came out feeling fresh and actually could have kept going.
Really recommend giving it a go for those who haven't already. Also recommend using Waze which was great help forewarning all the speed cameras!
(I suspect I may have done more miles on this trip than some of the garage queens are doing in a year
)
Cheers

I took mine last summer. I managed 3k ina week and it was full on. German Blackforests, Swiss Alps, nipped into Italy, Austrian Alps, Munich, Stuttgart and finished at the ring. Cayman was the perfect car for it. Glad you enjoyed it. Scotland for me this summer.

Hi mate - do you have a Google maps itinerary you can share? Thanks

I made two similar trips last year and will be taking the car over to Italy again at the beginning of July.
First trip was in May with a few mates. Reims, Baden Baden, Porsche museum, Brunico, Livigno, Zurich then home. Most of the higher passes were closed but we had a play on the autobahn, a good drive across the Dolomites and made a lot of noise in the tunnel to enter Livigno??. An awesome trip with great mates and shared with my 20 year old lad who spent time in all of the cars. 2200 miles in all

The second trip was with my wife in July and was the principal reason we bought the car in the first place, to take on a two week trip to Italy to celebrate our 50th birthdays. We had time in the Dolomites, Venice, Siena, Maggiore and Andermatt and covered 2800 miles.

The car was fantastic for both trips. Comfortable on the motorways and great fun in the mountains. Quick enough with performance that you can really access. And hugely practical too - amazed at how much luggage you can pack into it.
So my wife and I head to Italy again in July. I am riding in an event in the Dolomites first and will then head over to Maggiore to a little gem of a hotel we found last year. Going to drive over the Stelvio this time As I have only cycled up it previously. Can’t wait!!
Cheers

Just thought that I would add my twopennyworth.
Obligatory photo after collecting my first 981 from the factory:

But then when the 718 was created with only a F4, I had to scratch:

After my soIo trip to The Circle, I finally managed to persuade my other half that road trips could be fun, so to give us sufficient storage for two, the F was chopped in for a GTS, which we then took across Northern Spain:

I can't think of another car that ticks so many boxes.

Do the Stelvio either early, or late, in the day. Mucho tourists, cyclists, motorhomes, coaches and other car drivers out for a Sunday afternoon stroll!

You need a clear road (as much as possible) to get anything out of the Stelvio. On the way down the other side, expect limited braking power and a strong smell of burning rubber (unless you are lucky to have pccb)!

Totally agree. We hit it midday. Nightmare avoiding cyclists. Not a flowing road at all. Hairpin after hairpin. We didn't do all,of it but descended in to some Italian village where the police spotted by pal in his f430 showboating. They soon had us all pulled over for a chat and document check.
