I’m now 67 years old and have a carer. I’ve spent 9 great years with beastie but not driven her since August last year. My need for speed seems to have all but disappeared in the last couple of years, and the acquisition of a Volvo estate last year seems somewhat indicative of my advancing years. On the upside I’ve not got a bus pass yet and I’ve deferred my pension. Might keep her one more year... maybe... it’ll probably scrare the crap out of me next time I drive it frown

Did you say a career? I thought you were retiring!

You and I need to have a chat.

Just do what 98% of TVR owners do.......polish it twice a week and brag about its bhp number on Facebook.
Then theonly mileage you need to do is to the MOT station and back once a year. Saves on fuel.

I think you're being a little unfair there, A good few of those 98% venture out to their "Monthly Meet", if the weather's perfect and it's not too far away. Once there they can brag about how big their last bill from (insert TVR Specialist) was wink

There is a very interesting (worrying) article in last months Octane magazine where they suggest that with the onset of more cities starting ULEZ zones values may plummet. The danger period is for cars built between 1979 (the cut-off period for classic vehicle tax exemption) and 2005 (the onset of Euro 4 engine regs.).
There are thousands of would be classics within this period, including nearly all TVRs, and unless legislation can be created to cater for them they could be taxed off the road or become subject to scrappage.

Or until they're 40 years old. At the moment the 'historic vehicles' class rolls forward every year.

It now runs alongside the MoT exemption age so they will likely stay together.

In 40 years I’ll be 104. I’ll probably just be polishing the car by then smile

Frankly, who wants to sit in bloody traffic in a ULEZ in a TVR anyway?
Car and occupants overheating, clutch foot aching. Sod that.
If they ULEZ our B roads, then i will be leaving the country.....if i haven't already done so over something else, like the election and subsequent canonisation of President Barrage, or what ever that beer drinking, cigar smoking idiotic opportunistic tt is called.

Do what you bloody like, life's too short to worry unduly.

Take your carer, whisk her off somewhere, (a cruise sounds the ticket wink ) and enjoy yourself.

There is limited fun to be had on our over camera'd, over crowded roads with the general public, flashing their lights at anyone who dares to overtake them on a B road...... fk em!

Ah, that's better smile

Actually, with beastie still off the road and another two weeks to go offshore one is thinking of doing the NC500 in one’s Aston when one gets home... and taking the carer too obviously biggrin

Anthony why on earth have you bought a Henry Honda ?

Saab started making loud and expensive-sounding noises 75 miles from home yesterday.
Made it home by not changing gear
Grated my way down to my local garage this morning and parked it where he would have to start it and move it.....and hence diagnose it immediately, not next Tuesday.
Returned 15 minutes later to a diagnosis of "broken gearbox, and 183,000 mile clutch/flywheel probably stuffed too".
Quick assessment of net worth of car was a minus figure in that condition, so bought the first thing I saw that looked vaguely mobile in his yard and grated my way home again in the Saab to convert it in to saleable parts.

Honda Civic 1.6 SE Executive (catchy title) set me back 400 quid and arrives tomorrow when Paul has given it the once over and re-attached anything that is dropping off.
Just need to get some slippers and a pipe so i can drive it.......beige leather, heated seats, a sun-roof and air-conditioning get me that way, and I will have plenty of time to relax and light the pipe while I am waiting for it to get to 70 on the A1.

Aston Martin 12,000 mile service probably costs as much as a body lift,
The Tvr driver gets more respect as he’s savvy,
The Tvr owner can get most of his faults diagnosed on here so feels far more informed with his car and it’s repairs.
The Tvr car is cheaper to own and drive.
It’s no Aston Martin though frown

Time to meet up and have a drive of say Anthony’s car on nice tyres, I’d be down yours in a flash to drive mine with Rainsport 3 tyres foook the grip etc they transform the old bone shaker to something akin to a modern car and the ride/steering/ brakes and suspension instantly improves.
Sadly mines sat in the corner like yours is Richard, but I’m not giving in yet,,,
Don’t go mate,, the last few years have pulled people apart but it won’t be forever.

After looking at the Cadwell track day pics and videos, it’s the meeting up and having the craic that really is the fun. Remember when you saved the day for Mat Smith at Snetterton, off in the Tiv to find a parts shop I seem to remember, respect sir,,,,
You won’t get that kind of craic with anything else that looks and goes half as good.

It’s the people Richard, get it over to Mats and sort it,,, drive it then decide.... to keep it and come join in. That’s my hope, aim and plan anyway.
