So the day has arrived and after 118,000 trouble free miles my Spyder is having it's wheels refurbished for the first time.

No kerbing or marks on the rims in that time, but there is a little corrosion here and there due to stone chipping etc

Was torn between standard factory silver, brake dust grey (as I hate cleaning it) or matt black - but I have gone for sparkly silver - subtle but hipster at the same time - it's such a cool car a little bit of understated bling wont kill anyone.

Its also have new tyres too - sticking with the trusty old Bridgetone RE050's N1's F&R

Need some new wheel nuts (probably black) and some new wheel roundels too as they are shagged/tired

Will post pics once its back on Wednsday

I second this ^
Madness fitting Bridgestones when there are several more modern (and far better) products from Michelin available.

LOL ..... when you’ve driven a Spyder over 118,000 enthusiastic miles, every single day for 8+ years in all/any weather conditions, in all temperatures on all types of roads this country and some of Europe has to offer on tyres that have NEVER once lost their composure ..... I might take some advice from the garage queen collective ..... but until then ..... I will be happy with my own choices

You are missing out, I have done 45k miles in R's and Spyders, all my cars either went to super sports and now PS4s, the PS4S is witchcraft in the wet, offers more grip in the dry, less road noise and lasts longer, it,s a 4 x win.

With better tyres you might have covered the 118,000 miles a bit quicker smile

That is a very impressive usage though. Out of curiosity, what have you replaced on the car in that period - I'm thinking stuff like suspension parts, bushes etc? Surely there can't be many higher miles spyders about

Mine are being refurbed right now, I was looking at Titanium but went for a light anthricite grey though as that's the colour the silver ones became approx. 1 hour after each clean...

The one time I had Bridgestone's fitted to a BMW I thought the steering was broken. Constantly trying to send me into a ditch. Horrid things! Changed to Conti SC and the issues disappeared.

Go for PS4S or, as I have, Goodyear F1 A2s.

Bridgestones?.... Yeuuukkkkk.

Just to say, I loved the "garage-queen collective" phrase. Made me chuckle.

Different make of car (my other one smile) but I agonised over wheel colour in 2017. I bottled it slightly because I was concerned that shadow chrome or black would not look right on a blue car. A friend of mine has them in grey and they look good too, but his car is a darker blue than mine.

So I went for sparkle silver myself. It's slightly darker than the factory silver you see as standard, and I like the metallic finish. Doesn't show that well here but to give you an idea:

“Garage Queen collective” biggrin LMAO
Love it.

Love Bridgestone RE070s but theyre only available in some unique sizes for very specific cars. I must admit I’m a full on Michelin fanboy most of the time, especially on Porsche, but fair play to you fella if you get on with something else.
You’ve clearly used the car and know what you like.

Best of luck, looking forward to the refurb pics smile
