Need help identifying turbos... K16 or K24?
Discussion
Help!
I have bought a couple of turbos which appear to be freshly recon'd units (from a closed down Porsche dealer's old stock).
They're clearly used and then cleaned up housings, with what appear to be brand new rotating internals.
This is the part number on the riveted plate on each of them:
993.123.041.51
Does anyone know how to tell if they are K16's or K24's?
Thanks.

I think you need to ring a Porsche dealer - surely they can tell you?
Nope, tried that.
They reckon i should bring the turbos in and they'll have a look at them for me, see if one of the guys in the workshop can identify them...
Unbelievable ... ... surely they have a parts database ...
I have this vision of them holding one end up against the exhaust of a running car, and the other bloke saying "right, hold it still and I'll count the revolutions ..."

Amazingly, Google is your friend on this one.
A quick search (using just the part number) shows that the turbos you have are KKK type 6737 as fitted to the 993TT.
Does that help?
back to square one I think. Yes we know they are fitted to the 993TT but there are 2 types, K16s (for the 408bhp model) and K24s (for the 450bhp model)

Then your turbo chargers are indeed KKK 6735 for Porsche M64.60 engines which have 300kw and use the K16 type.
With part no. 993 123 013 51, you will have a KKK 6737 which was as well used with the M64.60 engine as Greg suggested.

I was very careful when i checked the numbers, but i will check again when i get home.
When i google 993.123.041.51 i don't get anything back
I think that is because you have transposed the numbers: 993 123 014 51 is probably what you have got.
Admittedly, I haven't helped matters by initially Googling the part number provided by nel.

You're right... i just got home and checked, and they are both 014's!
And they are also both 6735's!
Sorted. So this means they are probably standard K16's right? Albeit for the same side...

If they are both 14's then yes, they would seem to be from the RH side of the engine. Now launch a search for some one with two 13s and you'll have a match made in overboost heaven...
