Hi all. My Fiesta ST (58k miles) has a slight humming coming from somewhere, maybe a wheel bearing. It can only really be heard around 30mph and isn't really noticeable faster. And it seems to get a bit louder with more weight in the car.

I've jacked it up and wobbled the wheels and there's no play in any of them, there is also no increase in noise around corners and no change in how it drives.

I'm driving to le mans next week and a little concerned, any ideas would be grand!

Thanks smile

Could it be a different tyre noise from new tyres?

It could be to be honest. I've noticed that sounds changes between road surfaces etc. And only has one pitch, I.e, doesn't change time with speed, just one time at all speeds

Change the tyre pressures. If that alters the sound, it's probably tyres causing it.

Unlikely to be a wheel bearing if it doesn’t get worse round corners. It usually sounds like the wheel is going to fall off. More likely the tyres either wrong pressure or one is a bit out of shape. Check for bulges in the sidewall. If you are in doubt take it to a tyre fitter and ask them to check.

Had this fault on a C-max recently. The tyres looked ok but on the inner edge of the passenger rear, the tyre felt as though it had a step between the tread blocks. Hard to describe really but I could feel it when I ran my hand over the tyre. I put the spare on and the noise went.
It sounded just like a wheel bearing at 30mph though!

Wheel bearing noise often changes with speed and when cornering
