Camping at Bleu Sud has been great in the past, at least partly because of mad Friday, it was all happening on the road directly outside. Last year, unfortunately that did not happen, mostly because of the fencing that has been put up, but also because of the police.
Is there anywhere else around the circuit that is "interesting" on mad Friday??

Didn't see anything outside Houx Annex last year either. Guess the authorities have got bored of it. Shame but some of the stuff was a bit OTT

In readiness for this years LM I was watching a couple of my old trip videos from 2002 - 2005 and the HA roundabout antics were something else. There was a chap in 2005 I think who was a PHer who was donutting his Caterham on its nose at the entrance to the roundabout. Those were the days, although I often wonder how the hell no one got injured when I look back on it.

Does the pirate ship still frequent the perimeter roads?

There's a car show at Mulsanne corner - I think it's Bentley and Aston Martin
You could soak up the atmosphere and a few beers in Arnage - always a good car spotting location
There's normally a gathering at the Chinese restaurant before the first chicane - whilst the authorities have tried to stop the more rowdy behavior there's still a few people that make spirited launches from here
If you fancy a tram into town there's the drivers parade in the afternoon

This is from Great Danes excellent car spotting guide:

Friday 14th June 2019 (aka. “Mad Friday”)
09:00 - 16:30 "Classic British Welcome" (Featuring:Morgan) Car Exhibition (St. Saturnin)
09:00 - 16:00 Aston Martin and Bentley Car Exhibition (Mulsanne Corner)
19:00 - 23:30 Aston Martin and Bentley Parade +Party (Mulsanne Town Hall)
10:00 -10:00--20:00 Pit Walk and Track Exploration
17:00 -17:00--18:30 Drivers' Parade (Le Mans City Centre)

There's not a been a proper Mad Friday since 2007 which was mental and awesome all at the same time. Sometimes has kicked off outside the Danish section at the front of Beausejour but is small fry compared with back in the day.

I did get injured at mad friday but annoyingly by some posh Swiss tt in a Bentley who thought it was ok to just drive at the crowd (ie not someone cocking around). Smashed my ankle to bits. frown

I suspect if it does kick off anywhere you will hear about it here: https://chat.whatsapp.com/Ia5VXcXNfUIK6gSGmmCbKH

I've been 20 out of the last 25 years, ThirstyMonk mentioned Arnage just before the comment about the Chinese, that's why I was questioning where he meant??!!!

It was just that if you wanted to watch the world go by in a bar in Arnage then it's a good place to look at some nice cars - they'll be stuck in the traffic so no danger of enthusiastic launches.. the only place I've seen people launch them is from outside the chinese restaurant, but this is a bit of a stroll depending on where you're based..

Plenty of launches at Arnage if you sit at either of the cafe/restaurants on either side of the small roundabout. There’s usually a helpful sort who holds the traffic at the pedestrian crossing, creating a gap. It’s not the silly stuff that you used to get down there, but it’s nice on the ears

Is that a ‘Friday afternoon’ thing or all week?

Friday afternoon and into the evening

Thursday night is chilled down there and there is plenty of nice metal passing through.

Three years ago we had to tow in a broken down car. The crowds were insane, encouraging me to do a burnout in a td6 range rover towing a mini... Someone got between the cars trying to set light to the two rope.

Year before last someone got runover. It was only a matter of time.

The more out of control elements have done this to themslves.
