Company pay screw up

Interesting one that's affecting quite a few guys at work, so far not me, but still waiting.
Company for some reason, against out T+C's paid us 14 times in a Calender year, job clearly states 13 payments, but as it worked out first payment was first day, 14th fell on the last day, could have been avoided by delaying payment by a day, and if communicated to the staff I'm sure wouldn't have been an issue, but now several people have had HMRC demanding payments of up to £1500 as there is no allowance left for the year, so taxing them on the 14th payment.
Not all staff are affected, station staff we know where paid 13 times as per contract, fleet which we are were not, company are not interested, but as they breached our terms, I feel they should be, caused those notified so far a bit of an issue.

Not sure if this is what you are referring to (sounds v similar) but (according to a tax course I was on recently) HMRC have dropped the 53-week tax tables meaning that anyone who has 53 pay weeks in a year will underpay tax by getting 53/52x the personal allowance. So it’s a cock up by HMRC not the employers
