Hi all - 2019 will be only my third visit to Le Mans, and after walking pits and track in Friday morning I’ve been invited to meet up with friends for a beer in Arnage in the afternoon.. so what’s the best way of getting there given I won’t be driving? Is there a straightforward route to walk or a bus/taxi service I could use?

Apologies if this has been covered before - I did check but couldn’t see anything!

It depends where you're travelling from....

If you are down near Beausejour then the easiest way is to head west along the D92 and when you reach the mini roundabout on the outskirts of Arnage take the right fork, over the railway line and you're in the middle of the village.

If you're further up near to Bleu Nord or Sud then use the road that goes along the northern side of Bleu Sud, the Rue de la Heronniere and follow that all the way and it'll bring you to Arnage right where the bars start at the northern end by the filling station.

Both walking routes are on uneven grass verges, the D92 has far more traffic when the race is on because they close the Rue de la Heronniere to everything except local traffic. I've nearly ended up going into the ditch before and that was on the way into Arnage.....even worse on the way back

All the best!

There's free (I think) shuttle buses that regularly run to the key corners. You can get one to Virage d'Arrange and then stroll into the village from there.

I suspect the Arnage corner is as far from Arnage village as the village is from the main circuit.

Just to confirm, I was giving directions to Arnage village. While Arnage corner isn't too far geographically, the route you'd have to take to get there during the race is a lot less direct, you'd have to walk all the way along the D92 into the outskirts of Arnage and turn left at the mini roundabout I mentioned, then a good old walk vaguely south east towards the corner itself. It's somewhere I've wanted to see since I started going in 2010 but I've never made it. In terms of distance versus alcohol consumption even staying at Porsche curves it's too far at 4am to slog down there!

Or you could just hop on the land train that goes from Porsche curves and takes you straight to Arnage/Indianapolis corners (the best part of the entire circuit for me.... even more so at night)

Thankyou! I was talking about getting from the circuit (pits area) to Arnage village.. as for Arnage corner, I did spend a couple of hours there after dark at the Classic event last year and will definitely going there at night again this year!

You can walk out the entrance on the other side of the circuit by the ford Chicane. You will pick up road to Arnage from there further down which will be 1/2 hour walk).

I did this with a mate last year, it was quite a slog.. so much traffic and not much space on the grass verges.. it was worth getting to Arnage corner to see the cars blasting off into the night, but I don't think I'll walk it again

A couple of our group go easy on the booze until after dinner on Sat night so that was can do a corner or too... Works well for us.

Unless you're in Beausejour for Arnage village on Friday I'd say head through the circuit to Maison Blanche, out the main MB entrance and a quick left/right zig-zag and you're on the little road between the Bleu Nord/Sud campsite entrances. This takes you to the top/Super U end of Arnage village but is closed to traffic during race week so a much safer than the main road down by Beausejour. Then just a matter of turning left, on to roads with pavements, rather than grass virges and ditches.

Yeah I walked to Arnage corner on Thursday night. Not too bad before the sun sets, absolutely terrifying on the way back in the rain and dark. Constant stream of cars on the road and about 10cm of verge to walk on before it becomes a ditch. Leaving my torch in the tent made it even more 'interesting'...

I will be going back to that corner this year but will have to find another way to do it because walking there is really not a good idea at night.

Presumably easier to get down there on bikes?

Please do wear high vis and lights on bikes or walking. It is very dark along those roads and it is very high risk you will be hit.

We always go into Arnage on the Friday. Loads of good bars with outside seating so you can watch the shenanigans on the road and a great atmosphere. One of the highlights of the trip. Always awesome fun! We always walk from where we camp at Porsche Curves. Last year 3 of us managed it there and back in piggy back suits!

Make the trip during the race, rather than for qualifying and you can use the free bus.
