Would I be correct in thinking that using a throttle pot that doesn't have its internal return spring would be asking for trouble?
I'm imagining that engine vibration will cause it to move on the shaft without the spring to pre-load it onto the D feature...

Thanks, John

I can't see it going well but you could test it by fitting it and using either the original TVR software, or EvoOlli's software to see what is happening. If it's changing value so much dThrottle is switching between OK and No Control at idle its probably not a good idea to use it.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected.
What's a little annoying is that it is a brand new part from a well known supplier. I bought it early last year but foolishly didn't inspect it until I wanted to fit it to the car this week! Doubt they will take it back now so may experiment with it as you suggested if they refuse.
Happily I had another spare so that's kept me running...
