NCP stupiddery!
Discussion
Ok, so I'm an idiot. I parked in Chesham tube station car park yesterday and I forgot to pay for my parking - I usually pay on return to my car via the machine.
I realised as I turned into the carpark this morning that I'd forgotten to pay and phoned NCP while I was walking away from the car (after paying for today!).
I've now been told there is no way I can pay for yesterday and I'll be receiving a £60 FPN. They completely refused any way to pay for the parking, even after speaking with a manager.
Honest mistake - tried to put it right as soon as I realised what I'd done.

I don't hold with a lot of parking companies Shyster ways, but on this occasion I think they are right. I realised as I turned into the carpark this morning that I'd forgotten to pay and phoned NCP while I was walking away from the car (after paying for today!).

No I get it - just annoyed & having a rant.
Oh and trying to guage from others editors whether it's worth pursuing an appeal or not...
It is annoying - is it worth an appeal - no, there is nothing to appeal.Oh and trying to guage from others editors whether it's worth pursuing an appeal or not...
while we all kick ourselves when we make mistakes, ultimately that is what happened and the mistake here has a £60 consequence...
pay it - move on... ultimately less costly to not waste time and emotion on it

I put in the reg for my car instead of a pool car at a car park I used daily at the time. When the fine went to the office they passed it on to me to ask my thoughts, so I appealed including submitting docs for the pool car and my car and payment history, and explained what had happened, They politely told me to fOh and trying to guage from others editors whether it's worth pursuing an appeal or not...
k off and I had to pay the fine, although work actually paid it and I can't remember if they docked my wages. If this is anything to go by, I'd say you've not got much hope. But if it's £60 hopefully it will be £30 if paid within 14 days of you receiving the letter.
Itcould well be that this car park is covered by rilway by laws and as such NCP can only threaten, BUT you have to fight them correctly
Get onto Pepipoo and check with them.
IF it is covered by railway bylaws then what NCP are saying is give us 60.00 or we will take you to court, Only they cannot. It is the Railway company ONLY that an do that and if they did NCP gets tiddly squat
If you can spin out the procedure for 6 months ( asking qustions at last possible moment etc ...see pepipoo again on how to do it) you could win
Howevr as they know who the driver is you may have shot yourself in the foot .NEVER NEVER NEVER tell a PPC who the driver was .if they dont know that AND you are under no obligation to tell them despite what they claim, you can avoid paying them a penny
It is always The DRIVER saw this or the DRIVER did that irrespective of who the driver was.
See what pepipoo say you may be in with a chance
I will leave it up to you It's your £60.00 at stake not mine SteveS11 may well comment on this as well
It is about time the mods had a what to do with a parking ticket sticky. so many people roll over at once
And if you do go to pepipoo for advice DO NOT contact the PPC again until you see what they say

Appreciate the thoughts guys - my annoyance is probably misdirected at the PPC firm rather than myself.
I'm sure a strong coffee will make things seem better
And despite my earlier statement, I've had a similar issue. Like someone above, I put the wrong reg in. I did appeal, though not very hard. They rejected it. My point was I'd paid for a ticket, their's was I hadn't played by their rules.I'm sure a strong coffee will make things seem better
Common sense doesn't seem to apply. It's their rules or pay the fine (or avoid it as above).
Good old NCP. I try to avoid using them at all costs due to a little scam they tried on my dad last year.
My dad parked in an NCP car park that had no machines working. Spoke to other people at the time and nothing was working. Left a note and thought nothing of it.
Six months later an 'invoice' for £60.00 drops through the door. Luckily for him, this was way outside the time frame for issuing a ticket.
Wrote to them quoting parking guidelines and they promptly withdrew the invoice. Footnote of the letter still said 'don't do it again'.
.
I wonder how many people parking that day rolled over and paid the invoice?
Not the same situation as the OP, but highlights the fact that they don't give a s
t and will try anything possible to get money out of you.

Personally I would try to make an offer of payment somewhere between the days' charge and the penalty charge - and it will be a penalty charge, as Chesham is covered under Railway Byelaws - https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/tube_statio...
In effect this mean that only the landowner (London Underground) can take you to a magistrates court for payment, rather than NCP issuing a a claim through the civil courts for breach of contract. If it remains unpaid, you will get a steady stream of letters from Debt Recovery Plus with increasing amounts of red ink and vague wording,
Bye-law court cases are few and far between - the only ones I am aware of relate to persistent offenders with dozens, or hundreds of unpaid fines.
The difficulty you will face is finding somebody sensible at NCP to talk to in order to cut a deal with them - 01604 625 622

I did the same up to the point of paying the penalty. I told them that I'd paid the fee and that was that. I responded to letters from their solicitors in the same way. After 3 such letters they gave up. Haven't heard anything more for more than 6 months.

Just my two pence worth but I would make them drag me all the way to court before I paid it. If there going to bill me £60 for an honest mistake then they can at least earn it.
By the time they have finished sending you 1/2 dozen letters. Then passsed it on to some debt recovery company (who can’t do anything until it’s at court), send you more letters threatening you. Then they may and I say may take you to court.
It’s often the case they don’t bother with court in the end as well after all there letters and posturing.
S11steve will no doubt be around soon and seems to know how to go about dealing with these low life’s.
Edited: Oh I see S11steve has already responded.

If only they didn't pass on those cost on to everyone else as part of their charges model, you could actually feel like a hero, (instead of the complete opposite).Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
