Thought I’d try switching to Shopify. Few days in and a couple of hundred quid down I realise there’s no VAT management, as in prices exc. or inc. VAT or even getting it to show 20% VAT at checkout as opposed to ‘tax’, let alone on each product.
Shopify known issue it seems, pay a dev’ to do something to correct it, and that’s the answer straight from Shopify tech support. Fine if you’re selling organic widgets but if you’re VAT reg, forget it.
Grr.

Shopify suffers from DIY people putting a site live and not knowing the full “to do” list to finish it off.
Not sure what you meant but it shows 20% separate added on plus you can set the individual prices to be inc or exc vat. Once country is set it says VAT as every other country says “tax”
Also most “upgrades” are via cheap apps and they cover nearly everything. Storetasker is a cheap regulated freelancer source.

Yeah, set inc. tax. Each product shows its price but not marked to the punter if it’s plus vat or inc. only when you get to the checkout does it do that, and then it says tax. Had a look at a few of the obvious Shopify sites, all show the same. This goes back past 2016 when it started to pick up. Do have a link to a Shopify site that shows VAT?
If you are looking at something like our getmepackaging . co .uk site then i am sure DS could help. They did the original site but if you like to pull things apart and put them back together and are prepared to experiment with a dummy site then Shopify can be a great platform. We created our dan-packaging-machinery . co . uk in house with only a few apps.
And it does bring in good high quality leads every week with no outside seo costs only a basic adwords campaign.

We coded this didn’t we ?And it does bring in good high quality leads every week with no outside seo costs only a basic adwords campaign.
From memory you coded it yeah but we made some tweaks which I think are or were to do with the way offers displayed and also in the check out. It was a pain and you can only get 99% clarity regard vat prices showing. I think delivery showing ex vat is a problem in the final checkout stage.
Works for us which is the main thing and we have had very little issues that we have not sorted either directly or via a work around.
There are a few alternative platforms but not of the size Shopify
good or bad totally unsure because it's working for us and the reliance on others has basically gone

I spoke to Shopify again ref vat. Seems they will now try and help but I bought electro4.1 theme by Arenathemes, paying for their support.
Utterly useless, kick back every ticket overnight with some pointless request about something. Even if you supply exactly the right info’, they kick it back or blame Shopify, who then kick it back to Arena.
I’ll bin the theme off and get one from Shopify.

That’s the best thing to do, also check out Storetasker as a great value dev resource at fixed low price. If your stuck on anything let me know, some tweaks are literally minutes when you do it every day.
And once again I’ll mention as I always do that everyone selling online should consider Klaviyo, If set up properly it’s the best abandoned basket tool.
I had to completely revamp my site as the previous attempt was shambolic. Seems easy enough to manage at the moment but depends on what package you get with them I thought.
Early days as I'm still experimenting, but hopefully will get it right when purchases are made as I'm not yet VAT registered.
