The crash diet....
Discussion
About 4 years ago I was a smidge under 10 stone after lots of money worries and the ex walking out on me etc. I'm 6'1" BTW for height weight ratio.
Some 11 months later I met my wife and things got much better and as they did I started to put on weight reaching 14 stone about a couple of months or so ago which is the heaviest I've ever been.
I eat well, healthily that is. The odd take-away but very infrequent. I don't drink beer much, perhaps just 1 can in the space of a week but I don't even do that every week. I've been getting a reasonable amount of exercise recently and have managed to loose about 1 stone but it's been very slow to come off.
I'm now subjecting myself to a crash diet, no food at all all day just the odd coffee and glasses of water and then eating a small evening meal.
I know it is best to eat early in the day but if I do I feel hungry and eat more. I'm holding out OK so far and not feeling hungry but I am getting a bit swimmy and lacking concentration.
Has anyone else done the same fasting and experienced any ill effects, how did it work out for you?

Not a medical man but even I know that this sort of diet is very bad for you.
If you really must do this at leat try it with fruit to snack on.
Yep, I agree.
From my readings, I think the GI diet is a very good one... it isn't really a diet (you can live this diet for life and it will only be good for you) but the way you eat means you feel full for longer, thus losing weight because your overall intake is less!
Thanks guys, I tried that but didn't budge an ounce.
Seems once you hit 30 weight is more difficult to shift.
I don't look badly overweight or anything, it's just I'm not happy with the excess and would like to get rid of it.
Exercise is very important but I've been busy and not had the chance to do much for a while.
There are way too many vending machines where I work with junk food in which I'm managing to avoid. The cafeteria is closed now too so no pull from that
Five hours until a healthy (but small) pasta or rice and chicken and veg supper

Are you unhappy with the weight or the way you look?
If you are toned and fit, eat healthily and exercise, then I wouldn't worry about the absolute numbers.
I am 6'3" and 16.5 stone at 40. Medical profession says I am obese, but I have good cholesterol levels and body fat % and I exercise every day!
Of course, if you are a skinny build too, then adapt accordingly. I can't think that 10 stone is correct for someone over six feet?

this is really not a good idea.
I understand the motivation, but this is not the way to go about it. You should eat something for breakfast, this will kick start your metabilism and you will start burning more calories even at rest as a result.
By eating so little you a encouraging your body to go into starvation mode. In this mode your body will survive on much fewer calories then it woud normally. Therefore although you are dropping your calory intake you are also dropping your calorie requirements so will not lose as much weight. when you then start to eat normally you willstore more of the additional calories as fat because your body will want to store energy expecting another starvation period.
Are you getting your 5 portions a day of fruit and veg on this diet ?. Are you getting all of your essential vitamind and minerals.
Are you really exercising properly on such a reduced calory intake. If lack of food is making you woosy I guess not.
Are you consuming enough fluids
The only viable solution is to eat sensibly and exercise a lot to create a calorific deficit.
I'm not a doctor or dietician.
My advice FWIW.
The body has a fasting mechanism from way back when food was in short supply. It learns to use what's available more efficiently when it' sin short supply. As soon as your food intake goes back up, even if it's less than your old baseline you WILL put weight back on. Sorry.
You need to adopt a long term strategy. Lower the fat percentage of the majority of your food and you'll lose fat, but retain your muscle mass and energy levels. Ignore all the mumbo jumbo about atkins and calorific bollox.
If you aim for 10% fat content for the majority of your food intake, it will work. It just takes a little time.
I eat large platefulls of food as I work out regularly and the weight is coming off slowly but surely and yet I still have good energy and stamina.
Fourteen stone, pah. I've just lost two stone to get back to fourteen stone and I now have a four pack.... only two more to go

I would think around 12/13 stone would be about right for your height, depending on your build......
Just cut out crisps, chips, drastically cut down, or cut out beer, and substitute diet coke etc, try to avoid unnecessary snacks, give it time, don't give up and the weight will fall off........

Loosing weight properly (i.e. so it doesn't just come back again straight away) IS a long and tedious business.
I've lost about 5-6 kilos in four months and built up CV by gymming it about four-five times a week, eating more sustaining breakfasts including fruit, oats and other good stuff. Probably would have actually lost more, but replaced some of the fat with muscle. But then just having muscle ups your metabolism.
Am still not happy with progress though. Target was to have lost 10-11 kilos in 6 months, so I am starting to get behind schedule. But I refuse to trade health to loose the weight especially as I am getting slowly fitter too. From out-of-breath at ten paces, I have managed 8 or 9 km in an hour on the hampster wheel several times.....
DON'T COMPROMISE!

UUhhmm, I really don't think the Atkins diet is great.
Your body should have a good balanced diet of carbs and fat and not too much fat either.
If you eat foods high in saturated fats it will raise your cholestoral level and can clog your arteries.
With carbs, you have much more time to burn off energy before your body converts carbs and stores fat.
Arnold Swarzenegger is a fine figure of a man for sure and he has maintained an Atkins diet all his adult life but he has also had to have a coronary artery heart bypass op. Not good for a man of his age.
I agree that this is subjective and that it depends to a certain extent on your inherited genes but without a doubt, the atkins diet is in no way a proper balanced diet and I don't see how anyone can claim that it is.
