My little Vespa 300 is up for renewal at the end of the month.

Since 2015 its always been about £125/year TPFT, parked in front garden London.

Just called MCE, it's £350 Third Party Only, £400 odd TPFT.

56, riding since 17, full no claims.

A quick Meerkat and I can't do much better. WTAF!!!

I barely use it, much that I enjoy it when I do. £350 would go a long way to help with the cab fund, or keeping my 21 year old e36 on the road.

I know these days MCE seem to be the only company that will cover in London and it now seems that they are going to milk it.

Looks like I'll be getting rid. Shame as I have a ste load of decent riding gear worth £1000s from when I rode bigger bikes.

Switch it for an RD350. I've got mine insured TPFT for a bit over a ton, in East London smile

I do understand the problem - but have you tried with a different bike? I guess there is ULEZ to think about now but would be interesting to see what they want for something like an old 600 Bandit? Just to get a view on whether it's Moped Mugger Tax or a wider thing?

Seems the way to go hehe Had a Stan Stephens tuned RD250LC back in the 80s.

Tried Bemoto mentioned above, they wouldn't even quote.

If Londoners keep voting in Sadiq they will have to get used to high insurance costs (unless they get stabbed to death first).

So as I hardly use it, I've dropped business use to SD and P only. So no going to work. Mileage down to 2000 per year and value £50 seeing as it's TP Only, I don't see how the value matters but it does.

Different company £155. Still a p155er after paying just over a year ago £130 for TPFT with class 1 business use, 5000 miles per annum and breakdown cover included.

And as I did it through Meerkats I get 2 for one on cinema tickets for me and the kids twice a month so that's worth £240 hehe

I do play around with quotes for other older geared bikes but not had much luck. Seems I do need to get out of London, which I so want to.

Had another play Capp0 and would you believe it....

Tried a 2016 BMW R1200GS worth around £10k.

So my 2008 Vespa TPO with business use £355

2016 R1200GS Fully Comp, commuting only £380

Trying business use (as I commute to different places of work) tends to either not get a quote or silly money.

Bit annoying as I rarely use the bike to go to work but you can bet something could happen when I do.

Those quotes are mad but I guess it goes to show it's a moped gang tax and the Vespa as well as the T Max that I finally got rid of at a loss are the worst culprits being the favs of the scrotes.

Just need £10k for that GS hehe

moral of the story: stop ducking around with a scooter (that's for kids) and get yourself a real bike. smile

i know £350 is a lot of money and its a massive hike from last year but, it works out at £6.73 a week or 95p a day to cover you in case you cause a life changing injury to someone or damage any vehicle or property and the insurer could be liable to pay out millions on your behalf.
Thinking of it that way thats not bad value for money

£350 TPO? Surely the risk is the theft? I insure cars for less than that, in London, and you can do an awful lot more third party damage with any car than you can with a Vespa.

That's taking the P.

That said, I only pay £250 FC on a 1250 Bandit (up from £125).

Get a proper bike. biggrin

Sadly OP I think the scooter theft and crime issue is what is forcing your situation.

Obviously insurance companies cannot differentiate between a modern scooter and a classic, or a sort of classic styled scooter, not the type of things these scum would nick.

But these are insurance companies, the most unregulated, ruthless sons of bhes in business, so anything remotely connected to a scooter will be raped for new premiums.

I feel your pain, just SORN and wait perhaps, or flog it now while you can.
