Hi Guys,

I've had a company car the past few years but soon will be moving onto another role.

As a result, I'm needing to purchase a car - used car that is.

My budget is between £6 - 8k, low mileage is more important than being super new Reg-wise.

I'm not a fan of hatchbacks, would prefer a turbo petrol engine, also German (although not too fussed).

Saloon cars (Jetta, Passat shaped) would also be prefence.

Any advise guys?

Thanks!

I'm sure an Octavia would fit the bill nicely here.

In terms of style of car i think it goes someway to fitting the brief, yes it has a hatchback but its not like a focus or a megane style hatchback. It is much more a saloon guise vehicle than a hatch suggest and in terms of space it offers because of that hatched rear it is a pretty fine example that meets a number of the other criteria.

OP - any limiting factors bar budget and it has to be petrol? What about age/mileage any makes you particularly don't like ?

Japanese reliability - don't cost the earth to run. Fuel will never be your friend but its not evil mpg and certainly does many things well albeit not as nice a place to sit as its German counterparts. I give you the Subaru Impreza.

Or its bigger perhaps less hooligan brother - The Legacy. Certainly a nicer place to be than the Impreza in some areas, just never quite as fun if you ask
me. Still for the money you'll get a low mileage well cared for example of either model -

If the Passat is a car you like, try the CC - They can be had with the 1.8 tsi unit in them. Nice shape, nice to drive. Just your average under the radar saloon with a bit of a sleeker coupe design to it than the passat -

Going back to Japanese albeit the luxury side, how about an Infiniti g37 - Handle well, look nice and you won't see many of them on the road and like the q50 (more expensive) they are pretty darn quick. Very much a Q car and i love them -

Moving away from turbo again you could consider the NA 3.0 Straight Six in the BMW e9*. In this guise of the 330i saloon. Silky smooth, good handling, great engine, lovely sound .Nice place to sit. A definite contender.

Couple of ideas to contemplate.

Here's the alternates list not all turbos but some decent engine choices.

For me if the Octavia is in then the Mondeo Titanium X Sport is the car to pick it's the better steer & is decently quick but low mileage examples are hard to find:

If low mileage is your thing then it's almost impossible to beat an Infiniti G37 Saloon, the downside is £300 more on tax but it's a whole lot of car for the money:
