Anyone with a 4 Series convertible should check the drains are clear. During the last few days heavy rain I noticed a swishing noise at the rear when I braked, definitely sounded like lots of water in the rear quarter area of the car. Turns out the drain holes were blocked. I'm sure this could cause lots of electrical damage if the water continued to accumulate.

If yours is still under warranty, you need to get down to the BMW garage and have a chat. My ‘65 plate Alpina D4 (4 series) Conv started to sound like a water vessel last summer. Very quickly after hearing that (ie 10minutes) and wondering what it was, the radio started cutting out and a electrical smell. It had filled with water and blew an amp and speaker.
The garage were fantastic and replaced the drainage bits with new redesigned ones. Also obviously dried everything (days) and replaced the amp and speaker under warranty.
A couple of months later it leaked from the A-pillar.......garage replaced the drainage channel (a different area) again and all sorted ever since.
It seems to be a known problem with the design. Without warranty I should think it would cost a fortune to replace

Blocked drains seems to have been a problem on BMWs for years - not sure why they can't fix this issue.
