Hi all .....really don't know what to do with this.
We have an infiniti FX.
Somehow it ended up with some sticky gunk on the side of the car.
My other half washed it off - but with a kitchen scouring pad and soapy water!
so we now have 2 or three 'dull' scuffed patches.
If you wet these patches the shine comes back (if that makes sense) .....
is this something that a good polish will sort ....or will i need a body shop?

Probably will need a machine polish but even then it might not come back up - see if anyone near to you has a DA they don't mind lending you to have a go with using some decent compound (Scholl is a decent brand to start with) see where that gets you.

Oh and keep a bottle of bug and tar remover and a microfibre cloth to hand (you can buy some megs stuff from Halfords) to remove gunk in future!

That it disappears when wet indicates that the damage is to the surface only. If any areas stay dull when wet then that's game over.

A machine polish would be far quicker but you could do it by hand using a polishing compound.

Thanks paintman ....that eases my mind somewhat - as it is definitely not noticeable when wet.
So , next question ....whats the cost of a good machine polish, and does anyone have any recommendations near me (im in the SE London area)?

thanks in advance ......and once again this place is amazing for answers!!

thank you all

By the time you've bought a polisher and compound it will be cheaper and quicker and more likely a better outcome too, if you just take it to a bodyshop or valeters
