Starting to get life back in order and starting gym from Monday however always struggled with diet. Lots of snacking and munching.

Currently I do drink about 2-3ltrs of water with no fizz/juice.

But food wise does anybody have any good simple recipes for mainly breakfast but others are appreciated too

You've got a head start of sorts with drinking enough water with no fizzy sugary stuff.

Proteiny breakfast ideas: Bacon and eggs, black pudding and eggs, sausages or sausagemeat patties and eggs, pancetta and eggs,
huevos rancheros, shakshuka, smoked salmon and eggs, kippers and eggs, and.. ... just eggs.

Carby breakfast ideas: Toasted bagels with 100% peanut butter, bagels with cream cheese, bagels with salmon and cream cheese, porridge, homemade oat and fruit bars, fruit cocktail of sorts, homemade nut and fruit bars and eggs (again biggrin) on toast.

I eat full fat Greek yogurt with mixed berries, chia seeds and crushed almonds for breakfast.

If you don't want to snack, avoid carbs for breakfast - it's no accident that you are hungry two hours later; it's what carbs do.

Eggs and black coffee. Or just skip it.

Breakfast: Porridge, half spoon honey, sometimes a banana on top.
Cup of tea.

If the thought of preparing healthy eating is an issue there are a load of cheats you can save time with.
Steam fresh veg bags that are frozen and ready in 2 minutes in the micro
mackeral on toast is an easy quick snack

Protein is an appetite inhibitor, that's why that works. Carbs do make you hungry later on, but this is really a problem with high GI foods and less with low GI carbs, such as typical at breakfast (porridge, milk etc).

Skipping breakfast is surely a really bad idea?!

2 hours after porridge, I'm hungry.

I haven't had breakfast in about 5 years.

Well, the exception is when I am away on holiday and there's a buffet breakfast. wink

To be hungry 2 hours after eating is perfectly normal. Eat something else smile

Skipping breakfast is a really bad idea! Unless you genuinely can't stomach food first thing. Whilst it's not the most important meal of the day (a now debunked claim), you should try to have it.

So what's the point in eating porridge, they say it's supposed to mean you don't snack at 10/11 but you're saying you will snack at 10/11. I just chuck back water until midday.

It's not a really bad idea or even a moderately bad idea. It's called Intermittent Fasting. I do it daily.

We don't do 5 a day, we do 10 a day (thanks to me Mrs). And that's every day.

Lots of different colour of veg.

Gotta' be good for you.

Breakfast - chuck grilled tomatoes on the wholemeal toast.

Why?

All that "most important meal of the day" crap was just marketing. It won't hurt you to skip it, especially if all you were going to eat is some cereals, sugar, and skimmed milk.

2 eggs poached on a slice of granary toast with a black coffee, I'll have this at about 7:15 and generally won't eat again until about 12:30, if I do get a bit peckish in between I'll have a banana.

"Five a day" (was three) is just more marketing.

I think the point was that it's known that we need to eat more veg but just saying "eat more veg" doesn't get people to eat more veg. So having something to aim for and keeping the numbers low means we eat more veg.

No. My point was quite simply that the "guidelines" of three a day now five a day are purely marketing to make you buy more product. There is no scientific basis for them at all.

Obviously you know more than the World Heath Organisation. Fair enough.

What do you do for a living?
