I have a 2006 Volvo S60 which has a suspension knocking noise over bumps from the front and rear of the car. It recently had a MOT which showed that the drop links needed to be changed, but not other advisories or mentions or wear on other parts of the suspension.

We changed the drop links but the noise is still audible. Could it be shock absorber mounts or something else? Unsure what it could be that wouldn't be picked up by the MOT?

Yes, it could be, as it could also be lots of other things including exhaust, loose stuff in the car & lots of other things.

Just because the car has a noise doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem that would be picked up on the MOT, although I understand the expectation is that it would.

A car is a heavy old lump of metal & to replicate the dynamic forces that weight puts on suspension would require a lot of strength so things that are just small amounts of movement can be almost impossible to hear/see manually, but that could well be what is needed to find the issue.
