Advice on small starter motor lead

I need to replace the thin black lead that conects power to the starter motor solenoid ,I have traced it up into the harness that goes across and into the pasenger footwell it follows the route of the red starter motor feed, I think it must go into the back of the fuse/relay box which I think means it will have a relay in the line but could do with some reasurance ,allso can I remove the bolt and pull the fuse box out of its housing to inspect the rear ,has anyone else changed one of these leads ,my car is a 2000 model thanks for any help Steve.

It actually feeds from the immobiliser. If you are not getting any power from it, could well be the immobiliser causing problems.

Cheers for that Steve the problem is that the cable plastic outer is part melted I think due to the starter sticking on ,it happend happend while a windscreen was being fitted ,the starter will operate but it will blow the ignition fuse more often than not. The windscreen company offered to sort if but the local dealer would not look at it for a month so its got to be me,where is the imobiliser located the way regards Steve.

You can intercept the wire in the footwell, i have a picture or you can go to BBs web site for a pic, hopefully BB will be a long to do one of those posh "linky" things. www.ballisticbanana.co.uk/

David I had a look on BBs site but could not find a picture ,I am not great with computers ,but a picture would be a great help regards Steve.

Steve, your problem has to be from the point shown to the solenoid as there is no way the cable on the solenoid could burn up, given the wiring up to this point. Thats the reason for this mod to re-introduce a relay for the solenoid.

Thank you all for your advice you were spot on ,I ran a new cable from the plug shown and am now looking forward to a run out tomorrow it proved to be time consuming but I finaly fitted a new battery and did a few small mods to tidy things up,my car still had its original battery fitted with the riveted cover in place ,I thought it was a sealed for life job when I took the cover off I had a row of top up plugs and it was bone dry, but working fine, I do keep a optimate on all the time, but four an a half years without a top up unless they top it up in the service but its done less than 1000 miles since its last one so I dont think so.The immobiliser is fitted on velcro straps behind the glove box towards the radio if thats any help for anyone .So thank you all again you have made a worried man very happy I will buy a few drinks at the Growl regards Steve.
