Shall I get a small chip above my rear wheel arch fixed?
Discussion
Hi All,
I recently bought a Renault Megane convertible (2008) plate and someone crashed into my driver's side rear wheel arch while it was parked. I paid £1640 for the car. My insurance company deemed the car a category N write off (the cost of the repair is greater than the value of the car). However, they let me keep the car and gave me 94% of the money I paid for the car in a cheque. They advised me to take the car for an MOT to make sure its roadworthy, which I did and I had to get a completely different issue fixed, to the tune of £480!
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I have been quoted £360 to get the dent and scratches fixed. Do you think this price is reasonable and is it worth getting done? Does anyone think there would be consequences attached to not getting it done e.g. the damage worsening over time or is it purely a cosmetic issue that I shouldn't worry too much about? Please see below link to picture of the damage.

Are you planning on keeping it long term? (Given it's just given you a fairly large bill vs. value at MOT)
Do you want to keep up appearances?
I'd think a happy medium may be to get some filler and spraypaint from Halfords and touch it in for £30. Not going to be pretty at all, but will hopefully keep arch corrosion at bay.

So will the £360 include repairing the damage to the bumper? If so, seems reasonable.
I would also look out for a complete rear bumper on eBay in the same colour, probably cost £80-100 and would smarten it up quite a lot if you are prepared to swap it over yourself.
Yeah, the £360 would include for repairing the damage to the bumper (dent and scratches). Wouldn't know what I'm doing changing it myself unfortunately...I would also look out for a complete rear bumper on eBay in the same colour, probably cost £80-100 and would smarten it up quite a lot if you are prepared to swap it over yourself.

I don't think I will keep it long term. If I can get 2 - 3 years out of it I will be happy. Do you want to keep up appearances?
