Will the Hypercars run next year or will it be the final year for LMP1?
Is 2021 the first Le Mans for the hypercars?

The 2019 - 2020 season will be LMP1. 2020-2021 will be Hypercar (those regs come in to force September 2020).

Info. and further link here : https://newsroom.lemans.org/en/press/a-super-seaso...

ETA : although they then muddy the waters and talk about 2 types within that class... prototypes and hypercars... i.e. race cars only and race cars based on a road car... It could all end in tears..

New regs will allow both but there will be rule changes to the classes such as making it no advantage to running a hybrid powertrain for example.

I thought it was road based hyper cars only with a min of 20 being built over 2 years being the basis for the new rules. Return of Gt1 type stuff, happy days.

But then I caught a bit about you could build a prototype, but it had to look like a hypercar? So what dimensions and look is that? I really don’t understand this element of it.

There is still a lot about this new direction that isn’t 100% clear. Fingers crossed it is a good direction for Le Mans though.

I was excited to see the switch to Hypercars but that part about road car base or prototype looks like a big gap they should never have put in..
