Peterborough by-election 'malpractice' police inquiry

I suppose the BBC will now be dismissed as right-wing Islamophobes who can't accept that Labour won fair and square?

Will those who have spent the last 3 years bellyaching that the referendum result was somehow "unfair" be equally scathing about what has apparently happened in Peterborough?

Are there any legitimate arguments against requiring a good reason to vote by post, and requiring voter ID for voting in person? (How is that "racist"? Are non-whites too stupid to be able to obtain ID?)

Surely, anyone who supports Labour can be confident that their party's ideas are good for the country and can be defended against robust, uncensored criticism, and that they can win enough people over without having to cheat (and without having to import more and more voters, for that matter)?

(I request that this thread not become a debate about Islam. There is nothing wrong with such discussion, but we all know the facts by now, and certain posters have a track record of using that discussion as an excuse to get threads removed when the wrong side is winning. So please, let's keep it about Peterborough and what should be done about the vote fraud which, for whatever reason, seems increasingly rampant in this country.)

How many allegations are made and investigated at each and every by-election? Without this context, how can you possibly conclude anything?

Hmmmm, Labour employs campaigner previously convicted of massive postal fraud and wins this by-election with a massive 28% postal vote turn-out, well over the 21% National postal vote average and above the 24% postal vote in the last National Election for the ward - Nope, not suspicious at all biggrin

I've just read that some voters were spotted taking photos on their mobiles of 'themselves putting their X' on the ballot.

Now... wtf would you even wish to do that?

A 'selfie' for what purpose, eh?

To prove you had fulfilled an arrangement to vote for candidate XYZ, and thus get paid a tenner a short while later, allegedly

Yep

and with the postal votes no need to take pictures, take round the ballot paper already filled in to a "community leader".

Sooner or later this is going to bite labour in the ass big style

I can't be the only person who wonders about the link between the dilatory attitude of the Labour Councils that hosted grooming scandals and the community that delivers votes by the wheelbarrow.

Photos are strongly discouraged in polling stations and the presiding officer should have put a stop to that.

I cant see why not, it seems obvious that a narrow vote with suspicions hanging over it be repeated.

Don't forget all the people who have turned 18 since the vote. Why should they be denied a say in their future?

Things have moved on, the way forward in Peterborough is a 'People's assembly', it is the only way.

Yet we were told repeatedly that we were 'casual racists' by all the usual suspects on here. We are taking about nothing less than the future of our country. Baroness warsi said in 2010 that electoral fraud amongst the Pakistani community had cost the tories a majority in 2010, although she quickly shut up after. Times change and she later became extremely Anti uk, saying that the government had let the Muslim community down, etc, and was vocal during the 'islamophobia' nonsense, which she campaigned for, presumably so she could get on with her corrupt friends without anyone daring to comment through fear of being branded.

The worrying thing is no one is even suprised anymore. The biggest problem is the local council itself, who are so scared of offending anyone that it's basically a free for all.

But...

it's...

Peterborough!

Apparently, several were stopped, but not all.
This really needs a proper and thorough investigation. Someone mentioned about the unsavoury characters at the count, one of whom was pictured with Corbyn and the Labour victor, was jailed in 2008 for vote rigging, along with Peterborough's mayor.
Yeah, needs a thorough investigation imo.
