Fitting DAB to Porsche PCM 2.1

Can anyone help or does anyone have experience of fitting DAB to original PCM 2.1 fitted to 997?

I appreciate that you can buy an aftermarket unit, I am not interested in this and I want to keep the car original in appearance and keep function of steering wheel buttons, dash screen etc.

I have seen Mobridge advertise a product, has anyone used this, if so is it effective?

mine has bluetooth music. Having the DAB built in would be lovely though.

I understand Denson does a Bluetooth kit as does Mobridge. Denson advertisers a DAB kit for later PCM’s but not sure if anyone has used anything else properly integrated into the cars system. Hence question on this Mobridge system.

Interestd in this as well. Contemplaiting the Denision option, but haven't taken the plunge yet.

Reading the instructions for this - it implies you need the cd changer option? My car is a gen 2 997 c2s without the cd changer.

Not sure Lee, I have another system in my current 997.1 which is neither the Denson or MObridge, no idea what it is - it works fine for phone calls and music streaming although when you try to do anything from the PCM head unit i.e. find your music on your iPhone it is painfully slow. As such I find my music on the phone then hit play. But it keeps the OME look which was/is important to me. I had to use the CD changer port so lost function of this when it was installed, so suspect it may well be the same for you.

I am PX'ing my current 997.1 for another 997.1 and I have been advised by 911 Virgin that MObridge is the better of the two, but cannot tell you from experience. They have a preferred installer (who is very reasonable) who is looking to use MObridge in my new car and possibly use the MObridge DAB link - hence my question. Their fitter has not yet fitted a MObridge DAB as its new (although frequently other Morbid) and as such is not able to tell what it is like, but he has said that the two weakness in the DAB system will be the aerial and the PCM unit. He will be fitting a glass mounted aerial and advises that they are not great and that the PCM is woefully slow (which we all know!). He is happy to drill a hole in the roof to fit a roof mounted one, but as you will appreciate I am not keen on this idea!! Indecently their fitter and 911 Virgin have said the MObridge is better than Denson, but it is more expensive too.

So watch this space I will let you know what I think when I pick the car up in a couple of weeks.

Right a bit of an update after having the car for a week with the Mobridge system and Mobridge DAB installed.

So first the Mobridge which does phone, music streaming and hard wire USB for music. This system is great works really well, itergrates with the cars system and steering wheel buttons too. It will also read your sat nav instructions if your using your phone instead of the car whilst streaming music.

Mobridge DAB - first a really nice surprise (to all even the fitter) is that the system uses the cars 'satellite radio function' (yep who knew it had one), but what this means is that you access it by pressing the AM/FM button. In that on the third press it activates the 'Satellite Radio' which is the DAB function. You can search and store stations using the PCM system in the much the same way as the cars radio. I find it signal is pretty good, but not as good as our 63 plate VW DAB which has a better in built aerial, rather than the stick on type. These are the good bits, but frustratingly I cannot get the BBC stations, which maybe due to living on the Isle of Wight/signal/aerial so this is not faultless. But it does integrate well and appear to be OME which I like. It is also expensive so, and has about a 15 second delay when switching to the DAB.

911 Virgin correctly coded so that there are no error messages, but with both of these items fitted I cannot use the CD auto charger (you maybe able to with one but I am not sure on this), but I can use the one in the car. Hope this helps anyone thats interested.

Well, not sure about Mobridge etc but bought one of these to stream music and DAB from the iPhone via BT to a spare FM channel. Seems to work a treat for £16.....
