Griff has died.

While on my way to see the insurance assesor about my Scoob being written off. It's not been a good week. :(

It will run for a few seconds sometimes (on all 8 cylinders, and sounding as it should do) and then it dies - as though it has been switched off - no coughing and spluttering.

The pump seems to be running throughout and the "pump" and "run" relays have been checked. The ECU looks to be OK too.

There is fuel in the rails (the AA man got a petrol shower when he tested this :hehe: ) but it doesn't want to go into the engine.

The spark seems good and there's certainly air getting in the engine, so why no fuel?

I'm at a loss now - I've tried all the usual tricks I know and it doesn't want to play. What am I missing?
I should have a fault code reader tomorrow, so maybe this will help...

All suggetions greatly appreciated. Otherwise I might have to borrow my friend's Volvo - and I don't want to do that!

fuel inertia switch may of operated, its usual behind the glovebox, you can reach over the top to press it.
Could be a number of other things though, will be interesting to see what you fault reader says.
What have you tested allready?

A bit of an update... I've just found a broken track in the ECU. Now fixed, so I'll test this in the morning.

I've tested the engine sensors with a multimeter (as Steve says, this will only tell me they're NOT working, not that they are. IYSWIM)

The immobiliser seems to be OK. It is letting everything happen that should. It's only 2 circuit IIRC, and both of the things it's tied into work when they should.

Oh well, I'll see what tomorrow brings!
