A word of warning, I came back from a Spain / France trip yesterday, on the Caen / Portsmouth ferry, left my tank bag (Kriega bag with tank adapter) on the bike as it Didn’t have anything of value in it.
When we came to disembark the bag was a bit loose which I thought was strange, anyway when I got home it was obvious that somebody had been through the bag, presumably looking for valuables, fortunately my soiled Y fronts live to fight another day, but I won’t be making tat mistake again.

It will probably be some middle aged company director messing with that, it wont be one of the good honest Eastern European Lads that load and run the car deck, oh no.

Next time I suggest you take a big st in said bag, prior to leaving the bike!! biggrin

Magnetic tank bags scratch the paint, other mounting systems don't.

I think you would find it had accidentally fallen over during the crossing if you did that and someone got a hand bitten.
Or some other nefarious and concealed damage might be caused in revenge..

Leaving your skiddy shreddies in it is the best and most amusing option..
While they are wasting time looking through them it delays /reduces available time for other thefts.

Any material pressed against paint with incur microscratches into the clear coat. Even repeatedly dropping your gloves on the tank when filling up will create marring. If you value your paint wear a backpack instead, or at least stick on a tank protector first

Wear a rucksack instead? I value my spine, internal organs and comfort ahead of possible microscratces in the paint!

Simply riding your bike will cause micro scratches in the paint so we're balancing what is acceptable wear and tear against convenience, dynamics and accident safety.

I use the Baglux system.

Well this went off topic pretty quick. laugh

Could it have been those fine people from customs? I have heard they are active on ferries with sniffer dogs. How true that is I have no idea.
