opinions sought on a "kitchen find" little fiat.

Know nothing of these cars so looking for some opinions. A colleague showed me this today, it's her Mother's car, currently in Sicily in her house and she wants to move it on. It's the car my friend went to school in and has been with the same family since new, 1970 ? 500L. Apparently not been moved for ten years but the interior in particular, looks time warp to me. Any thoughts?

If it's not rotten and it certainly looks unmolested it would be an easy restoration and they are pretty popular and make fair money .
Being Lhd seems to make little difference as they are so small . If it was an Abarth model it would be worth mucho lira .

I had a 1970 Alfa for many years that was imported from Sicily. Although it had a few scuffs and scrapes, the bodywork was completely devoid of any corrosion.

The photo of the car in the house truly shows it has been part of the family.

So long as it's not been parked by the sea or driven on a beach the Sicily weather will have kept corrosion at bay. White ain't is less susceptible to sun damage than good old red.

A rare collectible and the engine can be maintained with just a spanner and a hammer.

Bring it over to Blighty and it will quickly be reduced to a brown rusty mess as all my Alfasuds of that era were.

Thanks for the responses.I think it is a lovely thing and am emotionally involved in it already. I think the problem is that so will the family and I am terrible at bursting bubbles with regard making an offer to take her. Anyone care to give me a ball park figure on what it's worth? Will obviously need work etc.

Examples described as usable ones seem to be £5000 / 6000 Euro wish on either side of the channel.

For this one, deduct the cost of making it usable ( whatever you think that may be ) and the cost of getting it back to UK, and something to make it worthwhile going to all the trouble rather than buying a ready made one, and there's your answer.

Owning a similar car bought in similar circumstances (kept by a single owner in Italy) and being a motor trader Mark Devaney of 24Hundred might be able to give you an idea. Nice bloke also.

In early 1989, I was in Stamford Hill, when a scrap lorry pulled alongside me with a white J reg 500L perched on the back ! I shouted out " How much " and the driver said £35 quid !
Paid him there and then and true to his word he delivered it to Chingford on the Sat morn, my Mum was not amused lol.
