I've noticed that The "holy trinity" of AP, PP and VC is often talked about but are they still the top three brands? I was wondering a what the PH consensus view is, so please vote for THREE of the above and we'll see what the result is.

A disclaimer - I've not been interested in watches for that long but my personal preference would be to replace PP and AP with Breguet and Lange. This is a point many may disagree with but whatever your view is I'd like to hear your thoughts and justifications behind them.

Over to you...

Why is Breitling not on the list?

If there were more than ten spaces available it would have been. As it is, I was only able to name nine (with the tenth being Other).

Would also have added Chopard, Girard Perregaux, Piaget, Panerai and a few others if I'd been able.

If it turns out that "Other" is the runaway winner I can do a second poll with just these additional names.

I suppose it depends on how you might measure what would put a brand into the holy trinity. There's no way I'd include Breitling with the likes of AP and PP and maybe even Rolex.

Based on pure horology you'd likely have PP, FP Journe and Lange perhaps?

OOh - just looked up FP JJourne. Lovely!

TO be honest that was part of the reason I made the poll - there are loads of measures you could use - history (favours Breguet), craftsmanship (favours Lange), technical capabilities, history of iconic pieces, design journey, link to historical events and so on. People have their own measures and their own weightings.

If you're looking for the PH Holy Trinity you need to put Rolex in the list three times (at least).

I’ve got a couple of Rolex and no way they’re at the top of any holy trinity unless it’s about taking photos with your Porsche steering wheel or discussing residuals.

I voted for the classic Holy Trinity, but I prefer much of what A Lange & Sohne & JLC make.

I voted Breguet, AP & VC.

Not PP as they do nothing for me, personally.

I would like to see MB&F on there and UN.

Not sure Rolex or Blancpain have a place on the list tho biggrin

Same here, JLC tribute to reverso 1931 when I have some spare cash, something Lange when the lottery numbers come in.

Breguet is an interesting one, amazing history but no real desire to wear any of their current range.

I'd have had RM and Moser in there.

Blancpain brand is stronger in Asia and US. It's never done much in the UK but has always been considered High End.
Putin's daily is a Leman Grande Date and he's a man that know's his watches !

Ahh ok, to me they were just a high end Doxa wink never even realised they did the haute stuff.
I have spent the last few months trying to man maths justify a 70s Ltd edition maybe the putin connection will stop me buying something I really don’t need. biggrin

It is almost impossible to narrow down. So many great watches nowadays. But my top 3 are Kari Voutilanen, Romain Gauthier and Andreas Strehler.

If I had to stick to ‘high street’ brands then I voted for ALS, VC and JLC.

Voted something else, as if I was ever in the lucky position to spend a silly amount of money on a watch it would be one of these:

Surely Ingersoll making a success of the first watch to sell for a single US dollar is a greater achievement than anything the above mentioned companies have done? Making timekeeping affordable to the masses for the first time. wink

Interesting results here - Patek is the clear winner with Lange is in second place. Behind that it's closer but AP and VC seem to be jostling for third and fourth but Rolex is higher than I was expecting.

Just goes to show that you ought to wear what the hell you want.
