Do you still get no claims discount? I'm a new rider and looking at a CBR 600f which I can insure for around £250, but I've been told I wouldn't get any no-claims with this policy is this correct I can't find any more info online.

I’ve currently got a classic policy that doesn’t give no claims and did last year. Given both years it cost just £100 fully comp I’m not complaining. Previous to that I’d never spent less than £500 on tpft.

That’s a bit of a shame might have to reconsider

Alternatively, don't insure it as a classic; it will probably only be a few quid more for a similar policy.

I'm a new rider a CBR 600F is £180 as a classic or around 700 on a normal policy

That’s a big difference and a bit unfair not giving NCB as what if you then get a modern bike you will have to start with nothing.

Being realistic saving that much will cover any ncb accrual when it comes to changing bike.

Is it? They’re giving him a near 80% discount from day one. That seems like full NCD and then some. If you want to accrue it, then pay the full price and build it up over years.

Seems ridiculous really, you can still plough head first into an Aston Martin on a classic bike and it’ll cost the insurer the same. Is there some sort of massive excess on classic insurance?

Insurance as a newly minted rider on a sports bike with fairings and no NCB is always going to be a painful first year otherwise

It should not matter what you pay you should still get NC IMHO

Yes, but they’ve worked out that the chances of that happening on a classic are massively less than on a brand new bike, so offer it much cheaper.

Follow your logic through though. If you’re going to insist that he gets NCD, which by definition means a discount, which the market puts at up to 70% then he’s going to be paying £30 in a few years. That can’t be viable, so if they’re forced to give him NCD, then they’ll remove the classic insurance policies from sale and he’ll have to pay £700 this year, reducing over time. Why not leave it is as it is and give him the choice?

You can, but you are less likely to. Hence the lower premium. A massive excess would make no odds, because excesses don't apply to third party claims. Only to your own vehicle.
