has anyone had a problem with the front indicator lights (on an s2) on the bonnet popping out when driving?? It's happened to me (both sides) recently and at the moment one of them is taped down (which looks sh!t).

This was a known problem on S2s:

"Indicator Lamps
There have been loads of problems with the front indicator lamps falling out. Ordinarily this won't be a mjor problem but, at speed, it will flap about on the end of the wiring, causing expensive damage to the front clamshell. This and any subsequent damage should be fixed under warranty. It is a good idea to check them regularly and try and fix them in a better way."

Probably worth popping into a dealer...

I don't know how old your S2 is, but mine is a 2001 that has a new front clam, but could not help noticing they have changed the rubbers surrounding the indicators. May be able to be buy separately and therefore just a case of changing them.

Just an observation - hope this helps

jonesgm- do you mean the new ones that are fitted with your new clam are better?? is it the rubber surrounds that are meant to keep the lamps in place?- i though they just sealed it up and that the lamps were clipped in place underneath

I believe the modified indicator housings have small plastic circles at the front which act a little like a spring to make a tighter fit. If you pop one of your indicators out, you should be able to see a circle of plastic underneath at the front.

Or just pop into any local Lotus garage and ask them to check your indicators...

If they have already been updated, then you might have a cracked housing (as I did recently). Again it was obvious once you popped the indicator out of the bodywork.

The indicator is certainly not sealed to the bodywork of my car (02 S2) in anyway.

Not a great pic, but I think this is one without the circle of plastic at the front.

The fix might even have been a recall? I'm sure someone here will be along shortly (or have a rummage around the SELOC.org archives).

You can check if your car has any outstanding recalls by entering your car's VIN number here:
