Doofus is right, it’s an FN Le Mans replica. The “replica” bit is somewhat misleading, they were built by FN in the early fifties as a replica of their 1949 or 1950 Le Mans race car.

And FWIW a lot of historics are replicas these days, built using original patterns to HTP regs, great for drivers and spectators to see them competing but not period cars.

Yea the "replica" refers to Le Mans and not FN. Was it a straight 6 ?

Even the Replica replicas sell for strong money. The proper ones are expensive to a high degree. Racing pedigree in the Mille Miglia and at Le Mans so the historic racing guys rate them.

Archie was a very clever man, but when these cars were built, H.J. Aldington was in charge.

"Aldy" was another clever lad, responsible for the pre-war association with BMW and subsequent acquisition of the BMW 328 six, which he arranged to be produced by Bristol. He also "acquired" Fritz Fiedler to help with development. I also recently discovered that "Aldy" imported some Messerschmitt Bf108 "Taifun" aircraft, which subsequently flew with the RAF in WW2.

Just to add to the nomenclature confusion, the Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica was a factory customer version of the Frazer Nash High Speed, as the car was known before finishing third at the 1949 Le Mans 24 Hours.

The term "Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica replica" usually refers to a series of six copies built by Crosthwaite & Gardiner in the 1960s & 1970s, plus eleven "WOK" (Werner Oswald Kit) cars built in the 1990s.

Can I hijack the thread with this one? Saw it at Bicester Heritage but couldn't find any identifying mark. Obviously late Edwardian or early Vintage. Thanks.
